Real Madrid Fans Turn Against Vinícius: Whistles, Contract Demands and a Growing Push for His Sale
Confusion surrounds Vinícius Júnior — and perhaps even he no longer fully understands his own situation. In modern football, a difficult personality is tolerated only as long as results keep coming. For the Brazilian, that balance has been lost. His last goal in La Liga came back in early autumn, against Villarreal in a 3–1 win. More than two months have passed since then, and the drought has become impossible to ignore.
What makes matters worse is that Vinícius has not toned down his behavior off the ball. He publicly showed frustration after being substituted, reportedly directing his anger toward Xabi Alonso, and at the same time continued to push for a new contract. Negotiations with Real Madrid have stalled, largely due to his wage demands. Vinícius is seeking a salary on par with the club’s top earner, Kylian Mbappé, the reigning Golden Boot winner — a level his current performances clearly do not justify.
Doubts among the fanbase are growing that Vinícius will ever reach that level again, at least in Madrid. Those doubts turned into open hostility during a home league match against Sevilla, when the winger was substituted and loudly whistled by the crowd at the Santiago Bernabéu. His visible irritation as he left the pitch only fueled the tension.
Later that same day, Vinícius added fuel to the fire on social media. He replaced his profile picture in a Real Madrid shirt with an image of himself wearing the colors of the Brazil national football team, accompanied by a cryptic post consisting only of an ellipsis. The message was widely interpreted as a hint — and supporters did not like what they saw.
Shortly after, Spanish daily Marca launched a poll asking a blunt question: “What should Real Madrid do with Vinícius?” The result was striking. An overwhelming 86 percent of respondents voted in favor of selling the player.
For a long time, Vinícius had defenders inside the club, including Alonso himself, despite their reported disagreements. But as weeks passed and performances failed to improve, even that protection began to fade. The situation worsened with reports that the Brazilian no longer wants to work under Alonso and has demanded the coach’s removal. Since losing the Ballon d’Or race, Vinícius appears increasingly distracted, focusing on everything except football.
In 2025 alone, he has been linked to late-night parties, frequent arguments with referees, public tensions involving Lamine Yamal, and even alleged internal conflicts within his own team. Instead of leading on the pitch, he has gradually become a problem — and, in the eyes of many supporters, a burden.
The contrast inside the squad only sharpens that perception. His compatriot Rodrygo quietly waited for his chance, avoided the media spotlight, and worked his way back into the starting lineup. The outcome speaks for itself: two goals and one assist in his last four matches — three times the direct goal involvement Vinícius has managed over the same period.
Once untouchable, Vinícius Júnior now finds himself at a crossroads. The whistles have started, patience has run out, and for the first time, a significant part of the Real Madrid fanbase is no longer asking how to bring him back to his best — but whether it is time to let him go.
