The only surprise is that it was only 1-0. They deserved a bigger defeat for sacking mourinho

Son & Kane might as well have stayed at home, they were both invisible. The first half from Tottenham was the ugliest football I've seen in recent times, they did absolutely nothing in terms of attacking. Mourinho isn't there, so you can't blame that on him anymore. The only positive for them was Lloris' performance. Well deserved win for City. But if Guardiola thinks he's going to win Champions League without playing a proper striker, then good luck with that.

I suspect too many Spurs supporters will blame the loss on Aurier for the foul that led to the goal, but it would’ve been a worse scoreline without him. Was left puzzled by Mason’s subs: Lucas and Lo Celso were actually driving the ball forward and making things happen. Son had a shocking match, uncharacteristic given his record against City, but as my buddy cynically put it Son “couldn’t find a cripple in a wheelchair” today. Most gutted for Lloris, who was outstanding but didn’t get enough support to get his first trophy since arriving under Villas Boas.

Lloris was unreal today, he made at least 3 perfect saves, but better team won overall.

The expected goals highlights both your points: Man City (2.82xG) 1-0 (0.04xG) Spurs. Yikes!
