Credit to A. Madrid they maintained their identity and held Liverpool to 0 shots ON target, did what 19 EPL teams cannot do, shows how shitty EPL teams are this season

The flopping and diving in this game was brutal. VVD looked uncharacteristically pedestrian as well, not a good look from LiVARpool today. Fully expecting Simeone's men to make short work of them in the second leg.

they probably needed the humbling.. every team needs to get reminded of how it feels to lose a match.. but AM would need to come up with a different gameplay at anfield.. those diving & flopping nonsense isn't gonna work there and we know anfield isn't very forgiving

Parking the bus couldnt have been more appropriate.. This is so anti football.. Hate teams playin out draws and 1-0 cheap wins.. Not a beautiful game anymore with these lame tactics

With all due respect, I didn't hear much criticism of Liverpool's tactics in the final last season. Effectively played your so called 'anti football'.

Diego Simeone and Wanda Metropolitano's boiling atmosphere. Fortress!! Atletico Madrid's defense was on point again. They may not play attractive football but, hell, they surely know how to keep a clean sheet against big teams.

they'll get a taste of fortress anfield as well.. lets see what happens there

LiverpoolKlopp 7 years ago

The final? sure it was a boring game but Jurgen Klopp didnt shove 9 players to defend. Plus Liverpool literally dismantled every team till they reached the final, thrashing Bayern away, Porto away, and Barcelona at anfield.

milanlamiavita 7 years ago Edited

Bustese Milano City, Italy 4 3418

Horses for course, fella! Remember the notion - you can't win a two legged tie in the first leg, but you sure can lose it. The reality is that Liverpool's tactics in the final were insipid, stifling and really not all that pretty. They got an early break with the penalty and then took next to no risks after that. Atleti have struggled in front of goal all season. The issue wasn't resolved in the transfer window. They had a game plan - playing another team with outstanding defensive record and managed to come away with a win and a clean sheet.

No one is complaining about it we are just stating a fact. I don't begrudge any team for any playstyle as long as it's not cheating, diving or play-acting. Defensive football is ugly but it's part of the game which makes football great also not everyone can park the bus so it's a talent I guess.

It is but it's different... because unlike Mourinho's Chelsea that were basically the best players in the league in each position ($$$) who tactically choose to park the bus to get 1-0s consistently... Atleti have this attitude of "this is all we can do, but we do it well... especially in the UCL" that makes them admireable... And their collective determination and lack of mistakes is really special... They are bad ass...

Then why the hell you all bash Mourinho and Chelsea but never talk anything about Simeone and Atletico!? That guy has been playing like this since 2012

milanlamiavita 7 years ago Edited

Bustese Milano City, Italy 4 3418

You've totally misunderstood Atleti's style if you are comparing it to Mourinho's. Simeone's Atleti have always been technically brilliant. What's happened here is that you've watched one game - a team in a moment and a season where they're having genuine struggles in front of goal - they've put on a brilliantly organised display and won a game fair and square. And you've taken one game to effectively define their entire makeup.

The borrowed luck the bin dippers have been running on and corrupted EPL VAR that was always there for them when they needed it ended tonight! Atletico, with tons of personnel, style and form problems, reminded me of their best times when the game could have gone for four days and the opposition wouldn't score. 1:1 or 2:1 in the return leg and bye-bye over-hyped and overrated third-tier english misunderstanding!

@6_20_characters_long Hate is too much of a word. It's genuine despise and utter disdain towards the team and the town they come from. The general consensus is that the Bin Dippers are the most looked-down club in England. Everybody treats them as a second-tier people and it has its historical roots. I can't speak for all international football fans but I was old enough to witness and understand the events of your "glorious" night at Heysel, Brussels. Must be really proud of yourselves, Bin-Dippers-Bottom-Scrapers!

Not easy to win every time when you don't have VAR going your way. The 25-1-0 Liverpool have been humbled by the 10-10-4 AM.

Advenco 7 years ago

Still going on with the nonsense VAR agenda? It's getting boring now. Lat season without VAR Liverpool got more points than Arsenal ever did in their entire history, where's your excuse for that?

Tbh epl teams or fans dont know how tough it is to score against ATM! and once they score you're done and they will make sure you dont score! I'm afraid epl and liverpool fans will see same thing happening in Anfield. Because Simeone knows you need to score not them!

5th placed team in La Liga would beat Liverpool.
EPL is overrated and corrupt with VAR and cheating.

Advenco 7 years ago

@nascolee In 16/17 Leicester who were 16th or 17th beat Sevilla in the Round of 16 who were 4th. Did that make La Liga a farmers league?
