Guess the ref's thought the ball was social distancing.

The ball needs to be two meters past the line in accordance with the new regulations

As far as I understood, the goalkeeper seemingly shielded the ball from the sensor as he was clutching it to his body when it crossed the line and thus the system was unable to get an accurate reading on the ball's position. If true then I don't think I've ever seen that happen before. I have wondered sometimes if something like this could theoretically happen though and I guess it seemingly can. Just unfortunate that it'd happen at this particular timing

Hawkeye came out with a statement and said that apparently all seven of their cameras used for GLT were obscured by either the goalkeeper, another player or the goalpost for the first time in almost 10000 matches it's been used. It's a bit of a freak coincidence really. However, although the situation may have been unprecedented, it is undoubtedly about as clear and obvious of an error as you will ever see so if VAR isn't used to correct something like this then when will it ever?
