To be fair Switzerland were in a group with the Faroe Islands, Latvia and Andorra. Getting a lot of points was to be expected. That being said you can only beat what's in front of you and under the circumstances they did almost everything you could've asked of them in order to qualify. I'd rather blame the awkward group selection than trying to label Switzerland as undeserving; not like it's their fault things ended up this way after all

Switzerland are better than a lot of other teams that made it to the WC, such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, Costa Rica, Panama and Australia.

Why do you feel bad for either Chile or Italy? Italy, with the squad they have, should've breezed through qualifications. They played horribly and certainly don't deserve to be in the world cup. Switzerland, for the small country that it is and the average squad they have, played very well throughout qualifications and the fact is, they're through because overall, they played well. What's "pathetic" or more sad in my opinion, is that squads with stars such as Sanchez, Buffon, and all of the other highly-rated players in both Chile and Italy couldn't find a way through when they should be one of the top teams in their respective continents.
