Congratulations to Villareal, overall it's deserved I guess, they just showed bigger quality, however this result is more than a harsh for Sparta, those who have seen the whole game or at least extended highlights know. Fact is that defensively it was really poor from us and even though we missed almost all defenders, this just can't happen. But I'm very proud how we presented ourselves on the other side of the pitch. Remarkable pressing and great passing game, just lacked an effectiveness in front of the goal. I have a feeling that Marcelino is happy with the result, but less with the performance of his team, they will need to be better if they want to be in the final. Good luck from Czech republic

well, no La Liga teams have been kicked out by other league teams in the European Championship. Valencia kicked out by Athletic Bilbao, Athlectic Bilbao kicked out by Sevilla, and Barca kicked out by Atletico Madric. Will these La Liga teams continue to final stage? all of them?

Valencia was kicked out the champions league in the group stage by AA gent and Zenith...

If Sparta did not have so many injuries, they would have gone through...they even owned Villareal in this game but what can you expect when they were forced to play wingers as defenders :/

OLP 10 years ago

They wouldn't of gone through whoever they had available. Villarreal is just a better team and you say Sparta owned them this game yet they couldn't score a goal until Villarreal stopped playing after spanking the Czech 4 - 0. Yeah, sure!

Z7S 10 years ago

Actually not, considering Sparta had no defense....they were forced to play a defender who didnt play for 2 years i think. The result is probably fair but it could have been better match if Sparta had all key players available...they were like a surprise of this year going unbeaten for quite a long time.

OLP 10 years ago

There will always be excuses. Fact is Villarreal beat Sparta because they are a superior team.
