Come on, live USA alone, change the rules just for them ok, (A) allow them to paly with their hands and they will still call it football (B) allow them to take a rest every 3 minutes. (c) allow their coach to through in a yellow flag in the filed and interrupt the game and ask for a reply. Finally allow their coach to yield at the referees and insulted them at will and interrupt the game again & the players have to be 300 lbs. and above (go ahead eat yourself to death) Then, they would be the greatest soccer team ever. Or my be they would just go to Holly Wood and make a movies and won. USA, USA, USA..

The reason why top teams are better at soccer/football than u.s. Is cause Americans play many sports and not just soccer. U.S. Dominates on medals won for olympics winter or summer. All the top teams in soccer can't say they do well in Olympics as a country and many countries mostly play soccer as there dominant sport. The USA soccer team isn't that bad either just inconsistent from all the line up changes every event they have. Do ur research.

No, it's because the U.S. is 100% dependent on physical play to win, we play like a mid-table EPL team. A skilled team like Colombia will defeat us every time. We need to change the playing philosophy in the U.S. We have enough good athletes playing soccer to win, but as long as players like Altidore are favored then it doesn't matter.

don't worry we will still be into the knockout round. just like we were in the last world cup. you all love to hate on America but we are in the top 25 in the world in football. Nothing to laugh at.

I'm trying to understand the logic of the US sucks and it's also full of immigrants. If it's full of immigrants doesn't that suggest that people want to go there?

Getting back to the sport of calcio, I think the team has lost that quality under Klinsmann that made it admirable: the fight, the fitness and the willingness to dive in. I always thought they were a little short on the technical end, but they were always a tough team to play. Colombia is an excellent team, but at "home" the US should have shown more.

This comment section is cancer. I'm not from the US but I'd like them to like football and this isn't helping. People from the US can be very ethnocentric and consider themselves the best at everything, but I think you'll find within the football-loving community of the US humble people and people who genuinely love the sport.

I think, like every story, there are two sides of the story. There is a loving community within the United States fan group; whether passive fans, or not; but there's also a big contingent of racist and nationalistic supporters (heck, a lot that don't even watch soccer unless it's the national team). Unfortunately for the latter, they tend to come-out to support nationalism opposed to the actual art of the game. An uncomfortable but honest question is; what do we expect when we play against other nations for pride and glory? Ignorance will rise to the top and it will be seen/heard. We can't pretend these tournaments aren't nationalistic, they are. It's part of this horrible side of privatized soccer.

football loving community?? I bet most of the spectator were cheated because they taught it was a "football aka eggball" match..

I was there at the game. With all the ads going on USA latino channels no wonder that the stadium was filled with 80% Colombian supporters. It didn''t feel like USA played at home!!! There is no commercial about Copa Amerca on national TV channels, and almost non existent in the news. Many Americans who would love to support their team never heard of this competition going on their soil right now. It's a shame!!!

That's commercializing of football for you; the fans are paying the price (quite literally). It's wonderful that there was a huge Colombian contingent of fans though. It's unfortunate that it had to be in a paid setting; but it was nice to see a minority politically there as a majority to support 'their' team. The U.S. needs to work on promoting their side of the game more. Starts with the fans, they're out there!

if they had won or drawn this game, americans would be like "we're simply the best, normal outcome". its not that i take joy in the US losing, it's that americans just get too annoying when they win or even draw against a good team. :p

Yeah we suck, but we also don't have a natural striker in this team. I'm not saying we would have won with altidore, but dempsey just can't deliver in a central striking role
0
jmac91 10 years ago
Dempsey scored like 25 goals for Fulham one season, I'm not sure how that is not a natural striker.

@ goncalves Before you make your opinion heard, you should not forget the 2009 Confederations Cup. The United States did beat Spain 2-0 in the semi-finals and almost went on to defeat Brazil in that same tournament final (lost 3-2). Think before you make such a malicious remark.
