France V Argentina ....
Hmmm it's difficult to say.
Both teams can win :
- Either Argentina, because this victory against Nigeria will give them motivation like a click.
- Or France , coz they got qualified by doing "nothing", they are not tired whereas Argentina had to figth badly.
To be honest, I am from France , I was more scared of Croatia
If i am happy to play against Argentina , it's by respect for this team, great cast
Go go France

When Higuain missed that open chance, I thought he would put Argentina in misery, just like he usually did in recent three finals.. :D

Yes Argentina Won !! The spirit was way better dan against Croatia ! But need more improvement at the back still. Armani was much better. Messi needs service like sterday to make a difference ! Thats what good teams do in tight matches. Higuain/DiMaria have been pathetic always especially in big matches !! Rojo played like a 9 being at right position for the second goal. Higuain who was supposed to be der was no where around ! he missed couple of chances, one he shot way over, other one was messi's thro pass in first half which ideally he should have chipped over goalie which Aguero would have mostly scored ! Di Maria lost possession, never passed/crossed even from left flank !! Defense should stop panicking ! Conceding corner b4 nigeria's penalty was unnecessary ! Lack of Communication !

@Harlem. Argentina will be going 'commando style' vs France - no pants, just pure brute force!

@jaapstam well maybe you've been living in a cave throughout the past month because they've all scored this tournament

When Argentina loses it is more of an upset, as they usually are better than most teams. And upsets draw more attention. It's the same thing with all big teams.

I'm glad aregentina won. But they don't deserve to pass France . A team with internal politics that bench dybala because Messi don't like him bench Aguero cuz Sampoali don't like him.. playing with Meza. He looks like a 2nd division player. It's horrible to watch. Masche wasnt good enough to play midfield when he was in his prime, they used him as CB for a reason. Now he's old which doesn't help. it's a disgrace they can't put this shit aside. Not only it makes me angry but I'm sad to say it will most definitely prevent them from playing decent football.
So I will be glad if Messi takes the cup but it's virtually no chance...

everything you said here is wrong. no one deserves anything. firstly, france looks weak, they have similar problems to argentina football wise, it will be a very interesting match. secondly, dybala benched because messi doesn't like him.....give me a break. sampaoli doesn't like aguero.....is that why he started against croatia? if masche isn't good enough to play midfield.....hmm wonder how they reached 3 finals with him playing midfield.

I root for Argentina (and South America in general) but everything you said is true. I feel the same way. One must be a total masochist to watch Argentina. It's Messi + 10 Paraolympics! Also, there's fundamental issues in the entire Argentinian camp that go beyond the surface.

TheLamb 8 years ago

OK OK Yes I'm speculating about the dressing room issues but does it really matter who hates who precisely? Something childish is going on there and they ain't putting it aside. Meza is crap. There are quite a few players from Argentina who just can't bring their normal level under pressure.
As for Masche... He was good in Liverpool in midfield. That was a lifetime ago. 4 years ago he was still decent, still not much of a creator. Yesterday apart from fighting like a gladiator he looked really really bad. Always slowing the game, never looking dangerous.. 2 youth league level mistakes in one play in the first half. Lets not even talk about 'Gonzi'...

This is the worst I've ever seen South America represented in a WC. Right now, the best team from CONMEBOL is Colombia, followed by Uruguay and then Brasil.

I hope we won't have penalties in almost every match from now on.

T1lt3d 8 years ago

Well, I'm really liking this VAR. Yes it's a lot more penalties, but they are fair penalties. Hopefully this change will make teams less inclined to grab, nudge, etc. and try to get away with it, and let us have a cleaner game. I think the next step would be VAR reviews on potential dives, and straight red cards for diving.

Perez did not make any impact, di maria played so bad, mascherano fight with his heart, higuain as always unable to score, pavon and meza are not world class quality but argentina did not have any other options as winger. Dybala can play in messi position and messi in the midfield with banega.
Mercado and tagliafico should do better.

ordenax 8 years ago

Arsenal 0 111

MOTM Banega for me. Bossed the midfield today. Nigeria had to try and come from the wings to create most their chances.

Cizbiz 8 years ago

Barcelona, Netherlands 0 625

Simple explanation for the handball: It was not a penalty because 1 - It did not obstruct the chance of a Nigerian player in the box, (in fact it created one!), 2 - Rojo headed the ball on his hand, meaning he had the possession, not a Nigerian player, 3 - It was close range and clearly unintentional.

Another game and yet another woeful penalty decision. Even VAR doesn't seem to be aiding terrible referees.

At least now we can weed out the referees that are incompetent at their jobs.
They can no longer blame the angle at which it happened in real time.
Either they know what constitutes a foul or not.
From this game and the Iran/Portugal game, it's clear these two refs aren't following the system.
