Wow, except Joe Hart, England team looked so mediocre. Years ago they had Shearer, rooney, neville, Gerrard, lampard, scholes, beckham, ferdinand, ashley cole, even sol campbell (but not a capable manager of course: errikson, steve mclaren, roy hodgson, allardyce, yacchhhs I cant understand why, why them?).

maybe if people stopped comparing them to older (better) generations of footballers they would feel less pressure? admittedly, this wouldn't make them better players. but they might feel less burdened to live up to greats and consequently perform better.

No doubt Defoe is a very good striker but he is always struggling with injuries every now and then. No big team would like to spend money on Injury prone players despite his qualities. However, He has been lucky in the last 3 seasons with few injuries, i guess that accounted for his call up. Jack Wilshere is also trailing the same pattern, too much injuries froze him out of arsenal and now in Bournemouth.
