Paraguay is basically Uruguay without the offensive talent up front. They have almost always been a middling South American team, which isn't so bad if you consider that South America plays the best soccer and its qualifiers are the most brutal. FIFA is a joke, giving Asia 4 entrants and 1 playoff chance, the same as South America! How the hell does Asia merit the same as South America when South America historically has played the best soccer in the world?

Venezuela was the spoiler in the qualifiers. Peru tied with them twice to miss out on 4 extra points. And then they beat Paraguay in Asuncion.

Paraguay scored 19 goals in 18 games = no offense. They have some decent offensive players, as you say, but they play a defensive game mostly.
