Singapore has a relatively small citizen population of 3.4 million people, but since only the ethnic Malays see soccer as a viable career option, there is effectively only a talent pool of 476,000 people to choose from. No wonder the national team is in such a poor state.

Singapore must be the only country in the world where a substantial number of home fans actually showed up for a competitive game wearing the jerseys of their opponents, Japan! No wonder their players - with the exception of the goalkeeper - hardly put up a fight, knowing that many of their countrymen were idolising their opponents.
