Spain is at a moment of transition right now. The young players have promising talent but still lack experience, while the older players are starting to retire. I don't think Spain will be at their best for a while, but the talent is there, Isco, Carvajal, Munir, Morata, Unai Lopez, Denis Suarez and others.

And no longer are Spain's top teams dominated by the Spanish! Look at the best players at Real: a Portuguese, several Frenchman, a Welshman, a Croat, a Colombian, a German, and a Brazilian. Barcelona is dominating due to the sole efforts of an Argentinian, an Uruguayan, several Brazilians, and another Croat. On the other hand, you have players like Robben and Van Persie who dominate their respective teams. In Germany, the Germans run rampant (Muller, Gotze, Reus), and in England, Kane and Rooney become home-grown heroes. Spain need to either get a new coach and hunker down with youth player development, or develop superstars to play elsewhere in Europe. I want to see them win again...

So disappointing to see Spain struggling like this after they had been so dominant years ago. I want to see the young players take over, but I think the real problem is experience. You have to realize the old Spain was made up of 11 players that nearly all played for either Real or Barca. Now, with several players moving to Germany and England, and the rest sharing representation with teams like Villarreal, Atletico, Sevilla, and Malaga, there is no extrasensory connection between the players. Additionally, they won when Tiki Taka was still dominant. Once teams learned to counter that, it caused Spain's relatively short-on-average players physically inferior, thus shifting advantage to fast, strong teams like the Dutch.
