Yes this is so unfair for Samir. His creative football will be missed during the WC. And Deschamps took Grenier instead.. Truth is, French manager have no clue how to manage a strong character. Remember that Cantona was not there in 1998.

He deserved to go, but the reason for leaving him behind was different. Remember France in WC 2010, how it was destroyed from inside? From what i heard he didn't get along with some of the players and that's why he was left behind.
