World Best Wingers

So, similar to the world's best striker only this time, I would like to put some kind of official footyroom 5 tier classement for a list. It would be great if you tried to class player by their overall quality over their current form. Would help everyone judge the different player on the same basis. Share what you think guys and I'll update the tier based on the general opinion. I'll put both Messi and CR7 already in tier 1 to evade any controversy since we all know that they are the best in term of quality.

Tier 1: Messi, Neymar
Tier 2: Hazard, Sanchez, Insigne, Salah, Sane
Tier 3: Perišić, Mane, Mahrez, Sterling, Willian, Bale, Robben, Costa, Mandzukic
Tier 4: Di Maria, Martial, Dembele, Thauvin, Son, Cuadrado, Callejon, Malcom, Coman, Suso, Lemar, El Shaarawy, Perotti, Pedro, Bernardeschi, Jesse Lingard, Reus, Shaqiri, Dembele, Ribery
Tier 5: Brahimi, Promes, Payet, Quaresma, Gelson, Zaha, Rashford, Brandt, Depay, Bailey

Edit: Or just post a normal list without any tier if think it too complicated or too long to make a tier list. It work as well. ;)

  • Tier 1 - Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar.
  • Tier 2 - Hazard, Sanchez, Insigne, Salah.
  • Tier 3 - Perišić, Sane, Mane, Mahrez, Sterling.
  • Tier 4 - Carrasco, Willian, di Maria, Martial, Dembele, Thauvin, Son, Cuadrado, Costa, Callejon, Malcom, Coman, Suso, Lemar, Bailey, el Shaarawy, Perotti.
  • Tier 5 - Brahimi, Promes, Pedro, Payet, Quaresma, Gelson, Bernardeschi, Zaha, Rashford, Brandt.

I got few names I don't know where would I fit them: Bale (injured most of time, can be ranging from tier 4 to tier 2), Coutinho (I still think he is midfielder, not a winger), Robben (too old and inconsistent, also frequent injuries), Reus (injured always, when he is fit he is tier 2), Ribery (injured a lot and basically reduced role but doing good in last few weeks), Bernardo Silva (still midfielder imo), Draxler (CM for PSG, LW for Germany), Aspas (he still isn't real winger imo), Vitolo (didn't impress in Las Palmas so we will see in next year with Atletico), Mata (not winger), Balde Diao (basically a hybrid of winger and striker in both Lazio and Monaco), Vazquez (basically only backup, hard to rank him),

I probably forgot tons of names because of how many wingers there are lol.

Btw @Emo, where will we fit Muller, Alli, Balde Diao, Luis Alberto? They can hardly be described as wingers/strikers/midfielders, I think they deserve their list but I don't believe we will have much names there.

@Croatian Second Striker or Attacking Midfielder list maybe? And I'll just make it a 3 tier list at worst so it isn't as bad if they aren't as many name.

Also, I will update the tier list with Croatian proposition but if you disagree, do tell, we'll try to go with what is the most popular. Please no dispute though.

Firstly, I think the gap between tier 3 and 4 is too minimal. However, I honestly believe Neymar isn't tier 1. I think he should be tier 2, simply because he is too wasteful at times in front of goal. On his day he is superb, but he loses the ball far too many times in a match, same could be said for Alexis.

Di Maria should be a tier 3 player for sure, I can see why some people believe he is crap but to me his biggest problem was consistency. Still, tier 3 is fair to me.

Bernardeschi is surely tier 4 imo, same with Pedro. I mean both are very quality wingers.

Of all the positions in football the hardest to analyse is wingers, moments they will do wonders and moments you won't see them for good 30 minutes. This is for all wingers.

Also Dembele(Barcelona) is tier 3 and Bale too.

Imo Willian would be better at tier 3, however, I agree with Bernadeschi and Pedro at tier 4. Same with Bale at tier 3.

Would like some other opinion for Neymar at tier 2, Salah at tier 1, Di Maria at Tier 3.

Also even if De Bruyne is not a real winger he can play wide like one and he would be in tier 1 too. But I understand that its not his position. Same goes with David Silva and Mbappe that played as a winger last season when he won the french league and scored vs Juventus.

@amir, I don't belive di Maria is crap, but Mbappe and Neymar drastically decreased his playtime, although he is surely fantastic player, I'd balance him between tier 3 and 4. Honestly his form is good last month and he is definitely back on track.

My mistake on putting Pedro in tier 5, completely missed it. He is tier 4 IMO. But he isn't so good this season, hope he returns with great displays. Bernardeschi might make it in tier 4 since only thing blocking him from having another fantastic season is Juventus' other wingers. But definitely, if he had regular gametime, he is good as or better than Perotti.

@Golazo, too quick to rush Salah, and also Mbappe is winger this season, not last.

@Emo, Neymar is tier 1 for me, Salah tier 2 and di Maria between 3-4 but Son, Cuadrado and Costa are all surely near him in quality so I don't know is there much point in making him tier 3.

@Croatian I don't rush the guy has scored 21 goals in the Premier league as a winger, that is something special. Sorry my bad Mbappe did play like a forward mostly last season.

@Croatian Lets just say Di Maria is high up tier 4 for the moment. Also, I'm tempted to agree with Golazo about Salah, he was responsible for 20 goal in each his last two season at Roma as well and it seem like he is doing even better in the premier league. Beside, its a list that also focus on what's happening right now, so I think considering how good Salah been he deserve a tier 1 spot even if it would only be temporary, what do you say?

22 goals and 7 assists for Salah in his first season in the PL, I don't know what more you want to look at when Emo said that even in Roma he was putting up similar numbers.

@Golazo Well, I said he was responsible for at least 20 goal but I was taking both assist and goal into account, its his first season he ever scored more than 20 goal a season. Anyway, no need to be agressive (your not really agressive but you get me I think), we all trying to work together to make that list after all. ;)

Imo if you are going to update the list in the future you can always take or add players based on for example a half season performance or idk how often but in that way it shouldn't be wrong to put Salah at the top right now...either way it all depends how you define the list, Salah is right now pretty high anyway so it's not a big deal.

@raimondo Actually on overall quality but if a player is in form, he can get in a bit higher position. Likewise, player that are out of form get lower.

22 goals and 7 assists for Salah in his first season in the PL

Just for accuracy's sake, it's his first season at Liverpool. He played at Chelsea for 2 seasons, although he only got 2 goals in 13 league appearances. Still, that's an amazing haul; pretty crazy to think that the Blues let him go.

He really is a top talent.

@Lodatz Oh yeah, your right, sorry about that, it was a mistake from me. As for Chelsea, they really had no way to know he would end up being so good, I don't really blame them for that. ;)
