I am not even considering likes of angel di maria or coutinho because they stand no where near.

@Sunflash Semedo has real potential though, he is solid going foward and is quite decent at defending. So at least, they got one side covered.

@MESSI0 I don't know, from what I seen, Rakitic has been working hard in the pre-season to prove he could still be a key player for Barca. Would make sense as well, after all, everyone is talking about getting a new midfielder and rumours say its to replace him. Heres hoping Rakitic show he is still good enough next season personaly.

But yeah, Inigo Martinez should do good for Barca. Adding depth and putting less pressure on other key player would be great.

Real's isnt better either.

Not sure what version of Real Madrid you watch. We've got two of the best fullbacks in the world, Sergio Ramos, and Rafa Varane as our starting back-four. Not to mention Navas is an extremely athletic shot-stopper. Defense has not been an issue for us the past four seasons.

As for Barca's defense: Umtiti is error-prone, Inigo is mediocre (even if Barca gets him), the RB spot is basically vacant, and Alba is only useful for sprinting. The only quality defenders Barcelona has are Pique and Mascherano (who is played out of position).

Should've gotten Hummels while they could. At least then Pique would have had a solid partner to work with.

Varane is a good example of investing in a young player, give a talent time and in a few years he will be a key player no worries.
This is why I still think Barcelona should spend more money on a younger talent.

Varane has been inconsistent in the past few years though. Unusual. I'm hoping that increased playing time will help him develop into a truly world-class defender. He has far more potential than Ramos.

We don't need a world class defense as long as Messi keeps rival midfielders not crossing midfield lines...
