Today I saw a poll on goal.com asking who is the best midfielder in the world. Therefore I wanted to know what you guys think. By midfielders I mean CDMs, CMs, and CAMs.

In my opinion Yaya Toure is the best midfielder in the world with absolutely no one else in comparison to the form in which he is in now. Manchester City have a variety of midfielders: Silva, Nasri, Toure, and Garcia. However, I believe that it is really Toure that makes the team tick. Not only does Toure demonstrate his amazing passing abilities technicaly and strategically, but he also backs his skill with hard work and determination. It is common to see his physically strong and impending figure charging down the field. He is never lazy to follow through with his passes and make great runs. For me, Toure has everything of a great midfielder. He has an amazing work rate, speed, brain, and he will punish any team for giving him time on the ball whether it will be with a upper 90 shot, or a killer pass. Most importantly he is extremely unselfish. He has everything to be the best midfielder in the world. (Period)

I was going to write something else, but I forgot what it was because I started thinking about how funny it would be if I were to say Mata is the best midfielder in the world even though he hasn't been announced as our player yet. In truth I always like to believe that the signing my team makes is the best team in the world. When Man Utd signed Fellaini I loved him even though in the back of my head I knew that it was a panic buy and the he wasn't the best player to sign. Anyway I am going off topic. LOL :)

So who do you think is the best midfielder in the world at the moment?

Wayne Rooney once said that Andres Iniesta is the best player in the world. I'll stick with that.

Toure, Ozil, and Schweinsteiger make some very good mentions as well.

@Dynastian I am asking about now, not before. Iniesta is currently injured, although I do agree with you that he is among the best.

Toure and Schweiny without a doubt. They're the type of midfielders that can work efficiently defensively and offensively. Two years ago I would have placed Alex Song on this list...

Matter of opinion. But the top 4 to me are Arturo Vidal, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Yaya Toure, and Andres Iniesta (in no specific order). Take your pick.

Hands down! Edin Hazard! ( u cud probably put down all of the chelsea midfield there, coz they are all good enuf for the accolade).. honorable mentions - yaya toure, silva, modric, ozil, xavi, iniesta..

Jack Wilshere for me. Despite his age, he already excels in all aspects required to be an accomplished midfielder - he's got the vision, the pace, the physique, the leadership skills, and so forth. Unlike Yaya Toure, Wilshere's mindset alone is top notch - commitment and loyalty to one club, and with the addition of him being a prodigy, that epitomizes not just the best midfielder, but also the perfect player overall.

Schweinsteiger does all that, and more. He's even won two trophies this season. Can't believe you think Wilshere is better than Schweinsteiger, Silva, Toure, Iniesta, Ozil, etc.

Okay, I may have been a little ignorant, but for me, Wilshere is the best 'young midfielder' in the world at the moment, lol. It may change in the future tho, but keeping my hopes up that it won't.

For currently the best midfielder, I can't choose between Vidal or Basti. Both are just great players.

That's a fact, Vidal is the best Box to Box player in the world, he can play every position, from central back to striker. (he made it)
Yaya Touré is tall and strong but not as good defensively as Vidal, Bastian is not a finisher, he would be a poor striker. BTW, don't compare CM/CDM (Vidal, Yaya, Bastian) with CM/CAM/AT (Ozil, Iniesta, Xavi, Modric, ...) who can't defend properly...
And the best young midfielder is Pogba!

Because of his build, it is very difficult for Toure to track back everytime, when he starts though, it is nearly impossible to stop him.

IMO, it muddies the waters when you combine all midfielders together because different positions have different strengths. It really should be split, at a minimum, into 2 categories: CAM & CM/CDM. Only then would this conversation be of any value.

Schweinsteiger. He is just too complete for me.

I unlike most of you don't think tour is among the top midfielders in the world. I agree that he is an amazing player and changes games, but I just think sometimes he is just so lazy and he just walks around to much. If he could start playing like he did in the video fredtilson showed I feel he would be without a doubt one of the best midfielders in the world. For me the best midfielder in the world is schweinstieger as a overall midfielder and ozil as a more advanced midfielder

also I think when gerrard is on his game he is one of the best midfielders. it might just be me but I love Stevie G
