I've been thinking a lot about this lately, and I've actually come to the conclusion that I really would prefer not to go for some 'silver bullet' signing up-front, and instead go with a lot of cheaper, but promising players.
So, what I would LOVE to see in the upcoming transfer window would be:
Christian Eriksen
Samuel Umtiti
Son Heung-Min
Mohamed Salah
Cristian Tello
Mohamed Diame
Tom Ince
Forget signing David Villa. He's a legend, but he's also old and fragile, and I'm just not convinced he'd be what we'd need him to be, anyway. For the price Barcelona are asking for, we could pick up at least 2 of the names on my list (aside from Eriksen), and I think they'd be better investments.
How to pay for it all? Well, I'd push to sell the following:
Emmanuel Adebayor
Jake Livermore
David Bentley (yes, he's still ours :p)
Benoit Assou-Ekotto
Tom Huddlestone
We'd still need to stump up some serious cash for Eriksen, I believe, but aside from that, I think we'd be able to cover a large chunk of the transfer funds by selling off those guys.
Also, with the return of Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and any of our other young loanees deemed 'ready', I think Spurs would have excellent cover and rotation for AVB's favored 4-3-3 system. I'd see it line up as follows:
Lloris
Walker -- Kaboul -- Vertonghen -- Rose
Lennon -- Sandro -- Dembele
Bale -- Holtby -- Eriksen
With Holtby deployed as a No. 10, and Sandro holding down DM.
We'd have SO MUCH DEPTH on that formation, if we bought my youngsters, and I think it would be great.
Any thoughts?
