Which team to support...

So, as many of you know, I don't actively support any team, because I consider myself a person who love beautiful football no matter which team perfom it. Some people might call me a coward who don't want to tie himself to any team and they would not be completely wrong. But, choosing to support a team is a huge decision (for me at least) and I don't feel ready to make a choice. However, a friend of mine on Footyroom as urged me to chose a team and while he was very respectuous in his proposition, I'm still not sure I want to pick a team right this moment. I did like a proposition he made, wich was of making a thread asking people to try and convince me of joining a team. So thats what its all about, if you want to try to convert me to your club, then go ahead and give me some reason to support it. I'm not sure I'll make my choice right now but if one day I chose to support a club, it will give me the good and the bad of the different team I could chose from. Oh yeah, a last thing, try to not turn this thread into a huge debate, I'm doing this to educate myself, not to start a conflict.

@Marcus2011 First of, I already read about that and its just prove one thing, there many different kind of fan following any club (like hooligan or plastic fan). It would be foolish to say every liverpool fan are like those who did those action back then. It was a long time ago and I believe than most Liverpool fan regret it and feel sad about it, even those that weren't supporter back then.

SunFlash is right.

To add to that, watch the league you feel enthusiastic about, and has the time zone which is more convinient for you. Then pick your prefenrence style or players.

Loads of people started by a favourite player and follow him.

Thats what I would do.

@tuan_jinn Then it might take a long time for me to choose a team, I like a "lot" of player you see. lol

@liverpollfcangryfan I'm nearly tempted after reading the guide in Gustavo post. Liverpool has a rich history and his one of two club I know of who managed to make such a dramatic comeback in a UCL Final.

Stop looking for your club. Your club will find you.

When you're in love you just know.

Keep watching football and follow your gut.

and take your time, especially nowadays where it's easy to get the hype :)

Liverpool is a classic club for sure with a rich and interesting story...

Buuut... Just imagine missing out on seeing your team in the biggest cup of them all; the champions league.. That wouldn't be fun, would it now?

@KTBFFHSWE Yeah, that's true, I guess I would like to see the team I support play in the champion league. No doubt LFC will return to the competition sooner or later but propably not right now. But that bring a question to my mind, is Chelsea gonna be in the Champion League next year? I mean, I'm not sure they can reach top four in the bpl now that they're behind. This would force them to win the UCL to be able to qualify next year wich will be very hard. Following what you said before, I propably shouldn't support Chelsea on the long run, right? ;)

lol most likely not.. But there's always a chance and not giving up on the thought already yet.. But the year after that I'm sure we're back and I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea went ahead and won the league then too ;) Not too sure what I said before making you to loose faith in Chelsea on the long run though?

So you want to support one european team? First we must start with deciding on the league. I personally have a favourite team for every single league, that's just the way to enjoy football to the fullest. But deciding which club to support is sort of simple and complicated at the same time. You need to support a club in a way you would never regret starting to support them and never even think of changing teams. With that being said, Ill give you some examples as to why one can start supporting a specific club; because just randomly picking one isnt the best idea as you need to be more convinced with a choice once it is made.

MLS: I support DC United because I got a chance to manage them in Fifa10 after they offered me a job :)
Liga MX: Chivas, only because I had a friend who was so passionate about it, the passion was contagious.
La Liga: I support Sevilla because it is the only place in spain Ive been besides Madrid and I loved the atmosphere and the people.
Bundesliga: Hamburg SV only because I went to an international game at Imtech Arena and decided this was the club I should support from that league.
Greek Superleague: Onlympiacos simply beacause a player from my country used to play there so I automatically started watching and supporting them.

The reasons dont have to be that significant but you need to search your feelings for a club you like. If you are not born into a club supporting family then the choice is yours to make.

Oh and btw, many people Ive seen in this forum including myself decided on supporting a specific team simply because in the first instances of us watching football regularly we fell in love with a team from that time which was just pleasant to watch.

hoped I helped somehow.

I would disagree with this. For me one club is more than enough. Can't have any mistresses on the side, right? It almost feels like cheating when I support my (sort of) local team Malmö FF (You perhaps recognize them from the 2 last Champions Leagues).

But I guess you'll choose yourself in this matter. Anyways, let the (not necessarily) best team win your heart lol.

I fully agree with what @SunFlash said. You are trying to hard to find your favourite. If you pick a club by yourself, chances are that you won't be fully committed to them like other football fans. Concerning myself, I love Chelsea Football Club with all my heart, as cheesy as it sounds. I basically spend every free moment to think about Chelsea, whether it's on the bus, on the train or elsewhere. The moment a game ends, I can't wait for the next one, so just be patient and your club will find you without you even noticing. As for now, I don't want to try convincing you to support Chelsea or so, but another club I really admire is Athletic Bilbao as they are an absolutely unique club in world football. The way they went head-to-head with the giants Barcelona and Madrid for decades while not breaching their restrictive philosophy is amazing, so definitely have a read about their history if you aren't familiar with it yet.

@KTBFFHSWE Nah, I just wanted to say next year, the expression "long run" is propably too strong. Other than that, I agree with you, even if they're not in UCL next year, they will most likely return for 2017-2018 edition of the competition. Don't worry lad, I don't think I will ever have bad thought about Chelsea, its a good team, I love the player (except Costa).

@Tuanis That's actually a real good way to see thing, I like it, I suppose in that case, the question would be which league I like the most and then which team in it is my favorite. In any case, I'll make sure to take my time and be sure of myself before making a choice.

@JuanMata10 Don't worry, I understood what SunFlash said, thanks for telling me about Atletic Bilbao, I'll check a bit about them if I can.

As others have said, a great player can be very important in choosing a club to support. For me personally, after being a fan of English football and then Liverpool for a while, at the end of the day this man ultimately sealed the life long deal for me, I thought he exemplified the best English football had to offer in the modern era:

@Eden17 Well, its hard not to enjoy seeing an underdog do so well in a league which is normally dominated by big team with lot of budget. So yeah, I wish them the best. ;)
