well for me, there is not much similarity between them. I think I can differentiate pretty well when it is one or the other. But it mainly has to do with the intention the user has toward what he is saying.
Can you give some examples, it seems as if you created this thread because of a specific issue.

Banter is meant to be funny or made the one bantered smile ( humoristic stuff with some truth on it ), trolling is meant to annoy, to confuse, to say a point you dont even believe in it (pointless stuff just for hating or evacuating frustration)...
Thats very similar for me a good joke is banter, a bad one can sound like trolling...
Anyway a closed minded person wont see any difference between both, banter between fans for me is a good thing, if its include humoristic stuff and in purpose of not simple hate...

Trolling always happens with the intention to rile up a person or a group of people. It can be name-calling, dissing, or simple 'jokes' that can be found offensive. Banter is simply mildly-offensive jokes regarding football.

To me, banter is just messing around with someone and them doing it back, it is meant to be funny and enjoyable at times.
Trolling is one person doing it to another with the objective of annoying them or making them 'mad'

I think we all get it right. There is a fine line between those 2 but sometimes it's real hard to tell.
Banter aim to have fun, and sometimes offensive
Troll aim to f*ck with your head or your team... utter nonsense craps. An advance troll knows what to throw at a discussion something super-but-subtle provocative... Those should go and earn a toilet cleaning job

I think we need come to agreement when banter turns into trolling . I will give my opinion , just like to see yours .
