It was a panic buy but he's not done so poorly to the point of being called a flop. We'll have to wait and see. He wasn't that bad today. Defensively, he made some errors but in all fairness, everyone in the team made errors. And we were definitely interested in Strootman and Wanyama. I would've loved to see Strootman come to United. He's doing wonders for Roma so far. Don't know how we didn't get him. Typical United in the transfer window. : /
Yeah can't really say he's a "flop" but in his past few matches his performances were below average. I've always said that he's a good, skilled player but no good enough for United. Of course we had lots of other options during the summer, including Ozil, Sneijder, Modric etc. but for some retarded reason, Moyes just had to wait till the last second to get Fellaini....
I think the problem is that tactically, Fellaini doesn't work with Carrick. Carrick is a good passer and intercepter but he's not the best athlete, he needs someone who can continually press the oppositions midfielders and chase down all loose balls. Fellaini is definitely not that player. He goes forward far too often and teams are able to get behind Carrick and run towards the goal with only the Centre backs between them and the goal. We had the same problem with Barry + Toure last year. Toure would be forward most of the time (like Fellaini) and the opposition's player was easily able to get away from Barry. This was precisely why Fernandinho was brought in. Strootman wouldnt have solved this problem. He could have been brought in as a long term Carrick understudy. Wanyama on the other hand, would be the perfect fit. In fact, even Phil Jones could possibly do that role but he needs to improve his positional awareness a lot.
Seems to me that Fellaini is more of an AM than a DM. He doesn't have the necessary attributes to be Carrick's partner.
well the whole team is not playing that good so cant really say much
^ I guess it just makes it all that much more obvious of how much of a legend Sir Alex really was. Losing him was inevitable, but I honestly didn't expect the effect to be lingering this badly into the season. :/
He will be OK and important for us. We ll see at the end of season what he have done.
I haven't watched many United matches this season, but I've been hearing a lot from my buddies and from reading articles. And I'm curious, is Marouane Fellaini a flop for United so far? I hear that he is doing pretty poorly, and has been taken off by Moyes in the last two games against Shakhtar and Southampton.
