Per week of course.

Certain things that strike me.

  1. Ivanovic outpaid by.... Bertrand, Marin, and Ferreira? I'm surprised this guy doesn't request a transfer yet! He ought to be paid much more.

  2. I can see why Hazard picked Chelsea over United, City, and Arsenal now...

  3. Chelsea definitely need to sell Torres. He's being paid far too much.

  4. Eden Hazard reels in 6 times more money each year than Branislav Ivanovic from wages.

And what is the point of this thread? If you won't mention Barcelona, Real Madrid, Machester United, Manchester City etc. :) Just to correct you "Hazard didn't pick Chelsea fc for the money" If it was merely for the money he wouldn't have joined us. It was because we were Champions of Europe that year and the players that will join us and were already there. Besides he wanted to win trophies so all in all was what he wanted and both parties lived happily ever after..

The question is: Why Ronaldo joined Real Madrid? :)

I agree about Torres, he is way overpaid.

OK.
WHAT IS THE SOURCE? This is an ESPECIALLY important question when it comes to wages. Do you know why? The reason is, that wages are the MOST notoriously difficult thing to get accurate figures for. All non-publicly traded football clubs do not need to (and usually don't) publish ANTYHING about their finances. Even though publicly traded football clubs are obliged to publish their financial going ons, they only need to do so regarding gross numbers. In other words, almost NO football clubs actually publish individual staff wages. The numbers often cited by media "sources" are as variable as they are unreliable. I cannot tell you how many times a players wages was "common knowledge" and being discussed as such, only for something to force out the truth that it was completely off the mark.
Players/Agents/Clubs do not like to discuss specifics to wages.
What makes this whole situation even more complicated is HOW the wages are calculated. In England gross wages are usually cited. In many other European countries only net wages are cited (i.e. post-tax, etc.). What's more is that there are many variables that differ from contract to contract. For example, signing-on bonuses, 3rd party shares, loyalty bonuses, performance bonuses... and these are just the things "above table". There are countless other "incentives" that occur behind closed doors for tax evasion/legal reasons.

In short, I usually do not believe wages UNLESS it is directly quoted by the player himself, a prospective buyer (never happens), or the manager.

Clearly your source is old as Turbull, Sturridge and Paulo are on the list. I would have preferred a more updated version (I'm sure Ivanovic gets paid more now, if he doesn't could it be loyalty? O.o).

Other than that, the wages given seem to be extremely fair. As it seems only the old guards and the big money moves are the ones that are paid over 100k a week. Very fair honestly.

@Foota: It's the actual wage list at Chelsea. I don't remember how it was brought up, but I believe it was Football Manager. I'll look more into it.

Ivanovic wage is very weird considering he is on the starting XI and he is very diverse on his position while playing great wherever he plays. Also how could Cahill have a higher wage than David Luiz? Luiz is the reason why he stays in the bench so often.
@alexbatak: everyone knows that hazard joined Chelsea because of the wage, he could have gone to any other club he wanted, and I don't think he was foolish enough to think either Chelsea was winning the UCL again or that Chelsea would be winning many trophies ( more than Barcelona, United, City or many other clubs that wanted him badly) no other club offered him a higher wage, his decision wasn't coincidence. And Ronaldo joined Madrid simply because it is REAL MADRID, there is so much history, tradition and success behind this team that there are very few players who have ever played football that wouldn't have wished to play for them.

These are football manager figures. I don't see how they (Football manager) would get access to wage figures.

@Tuanis: "I was in advanced talks with United until I met Abramovich" – Hazard
Sure the wage had a part to do with it, but there was one man who was influential enough to bring him to Chelsea, and he succeeded.

I found it! I don't remember the where the quote originated from, but here it is on a Chelsea blog.

"This is sourced from the latest version of the Sports Interactive football management simulation game, Football Manager, who have access to the official wage figures from Premier League clubs."

^That was Football Manager 2012, so FM 2013 probably has the updated wage list.

Also, the best player of the EPL can't have such a low wage, he could easily have double his current wage according to that wage list.

Torres doesn't deserve that much cash in 1 week, after-all he doesn't even make an effort to contribute for the team.

This is why i said on my first comment "And what is the point of this thread? If you won't mention other club's wages" We all know that players nowadays are way overpaid. and their transfer fees are too high. there is nothing new.

@ Tuanis No mate, Hazard has been linked to many clubs and he mentioned on the interview why he picked us. As much as you like to think he joined us merely for the money without any proofs as much i can say otherwise. and History is nothing but History. Real Madrid is not bigger than Chelsea at the moment as a club. That's my opinion as a Chelsea FC supporter. Even before RA we were a decent club we didn't win a lot of trophies because we didn't have budget like the other clubs in the league. :)

@ Alex

That is your opinion if you think Chelsea is a bigger club than Real Madrid, because they aren't, never were and never will be either.

@Alex

Haha! Real Madrid not bigger than Chelsea at the moment as a club? That's just a stuck-up opinion.

Madrid, unlike the Blues, earn their money through business and not through a sugar-daddy.

We have considerably better players on our team than Chelsea's squad, and currently pose a much of a bigger threat to the CL than you do. It's why we got to the semis last season whilst you guys were stuck in the Europa League. And don't even mention the 2012 CL title that Chelsea won. I know that Chelsea were a fantastic team back then, but by no means does that prove in any form that Chelsea are a "bigger" club than Real Madrid.

We have one of the world's best players in history in Ronaldo, and one of the best squads in the world as well. I know you guys also have a fantastic squad, but quite frankly, if any player got an option to play for either Real Madrid or Chelsea at the moment, the would pick Real Madrid. It's just not the same playing with Hazard and Lampard as it is with Ronaldo and Alonso.

And as for what our clubs have done since 1983,

Chelsea - 3 EPL titles, 2 Second Division titles, 6 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 3 Community Shields, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup

Total - 21 trophies in 30 years

Real Madrid - 12 La Liga titles, 3 Copa del Rey, 9 Supercopa de Espana's, 1 Copa de La Liga, 3 Champions League, 2 UEFA Cups, 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and 2 Intercontinental Cups

Total - 32 trophies in 30 years

And to also note, we never got relegated. EVER. As you can see, Chelsea HAD been relegated before, and they've won 2 Second Division titles since '83.

Don't get me wrong, Chelsea FC is a fantastic club, and I very much enjoy watching them play, but by no means are they a bigger club than Real Madrid, either in history or right now.
