We have known this since last year. Screw the haters, Valdes is a great keeper who is very underrated. I'm going to miss him a lot too.

He is not underrated since he's considered 2nd best keeper in Spain. I personally think he was overrated for being Barça GK, but he has improved those last years, its the first year im satisfied with his stats...
He wants to leave when he become good, ok Barça fans are used to have a decent GK (ValdesPinto)...
Barça could have won more trophies with a world class GK, at the oposite Valdes was not decisive in most of important games.
Personally, i will not miss him that much...
I m waiting to see whos gonna replace him.

I think he's a pretty decent keeper, just that his howlers tend to get exaggerated a lot.

I heard Ter Stegen is going to replace him. He is a fantastic keeper.

@tiki_taka

2nd best keeper in Spain? I thought that Diego Lopez, Casillas, and Courtois are all considered to be well better than him. :P

More like 4th best keeper in Spain.

IMO

  1. Casillas
  2. Valdes
  3. Lopez
  4. Courtois
  5. De Gea

Sorry guys, but Valdes is great. He has saved Barca's ass a lot more than he has screwed up. You can't compare a young goalie to a veteran and champion like Valdes. You can say that it's the defense and team that explains his stats, but he is arguably the best goalie Barca has ever had. You guys just underrate him because of the mistakes he has made. None of you actually watch all of Barca's games. That's just my opinion.

Valdes of this year and the old Valdes are not the same person :) its impossible, he is nearly perfect this year....
But remembering past seasons, he was a decent player, that is reality.

I actually find Zubizarreta to be a better keeper than Valdes, if you've ever watched him play, that is.

@Tiki_taka

I was just about to say that. He has had a phenomenal start to this season, but we can't quite forget that he made quite a few blunders in the past. But if he continues the entire season in this form, you can be sure that Rosell will be sorry to see him go.

@Tdot

Why are De Gea and Courtois both in your list? De Gea is Spanish, and plays in England. Courtois is Belgian, and plays in Spain. How do they both fit in your list?

Hey man, if you're talking about on-form keepers, then Valdes and Diego Lopez are at the top. But if you're talking about quality over time, then Lopez, Courtois, and Casillas all surely beat him. Valdes tends to mess up a lot, you can't deny that (no matter how great his 2013/14 season has been so far). Courtois kept 20 clean sheets in La Liga last year, Casillas is one of the best ever, and Lopez has just been phenomenal ever since we bought him. :)

@ Dynastian

I thought when you guys said "best in Spain" I thought you guys meant FROM Spain, and I got confused with Courtois because hes playing in Spain, sorry. :P

Hey I respect your opinion but Valdes' career has been a lot longer than this year and the last two years where he was constantly trolled. He has been at Barca his whole life and he was phenomenal for us. I do agree that Casillas is one of the best ever, no denying that. But I don't agree that Courtois is better, you can't compare him to a veteran like Valdes. However, I'm not saying that Valdes is WAY better. I'm pretty sure Courtois will surpass him in the coming years.

He gets so much s**t for a few mistakes. I personally think he's a decent goalkeeper.

Regardless of his effectiveness its the fact that hes been at the club so long and been there for all the big moments and has stepped up alot to when absolutely needed. He is great its just when he makes a mistake people go ape shit cause there all waiting for it.

Valdes is a legend. end of story and he won't be forgotten at FCB in a very long time.

"Valdes' career has been a lot longer than this year and the last two years where he was constantly trolled."

Yes, but the problem is, tdot, that what he was being trolled ABOUT was his whole career.

Go find some blooper reels. Note that in much of the footage he has hair, for instance. You can't say that people make fun of him for just the last couple of years of screw-ups, and that career-long list of screw-ups is actually a very GOOD reason to demote him from the list of 'greatest' keepers.

That's not 'under-rating' him. It's plain old rating him, based upon his performances.

Yes and all these trolls make people underrate him because all they see is the bad stuff. He has been our main man since 2002. They don't understand he's a great keeper and probably the best in Barca history.

@Tdot

Then Barca must have a history of shitty keepers if Valdes is the best of them. Tell me, I recall you saying you are in your late teens. When was the last time you watched Barca play without Valdes in net? How can you compare him to other Barcelona keepers? Like Andoni Zubizarreta? You can't. All you've ever seen between the stick at the Camp Nou is Valdes. Therefore, your conception of what is an "average keeper" and a "world class keeper" are two totally different things.

World class keepers are in the brackets of Buffon, Schmeichel, Yashin, Zoff, Taffarel, Casillas, Banks, etc. Valdes is far from that.

@ Dynastian

Yeah we haven't had the best history of keepers. But look at what he has won compared to the other keepers in Barca history. You can say a lot has to do with the team and not Valdes but that would be ignorant. Every keeper has a vital role to play in their team. I'm not saying he's world class, I'm saying he is great. However his current form is world class.
