USWNT Suing for Equal Pay

Let's put some things straight here.

  1. The women's team plays much more games than the men's team. They have many more opportunities to earn money than the men do from representing the US team. Regardless of this fact, I understand that the women are still raking in less money, annually, than the men. If the women are to receive equal pay to the men, then they will end up earning much more money than the men because they will still be playing many more games. If the US board doesn't deem this efficient, they can simply reduce the number of friendlies the women's team plays annually. And thus we will have a new complaint filed to the US board from the women's team. Remember, the women's team plays at least 20 friendlies annually (according to the article). Most men's teams play roughly 10.

  2. The women's team aren't as popular as the men's team. This is a business. If the women's team had as many viewers and fans as the men's team, then certainly they should receive equal pay. But they don't possess that kind of fanbase. Whether this is a problem of the marketing of the US women's team or women's football in general is a different debate. The fact is that the women's team receive less viewers than the men's team. Period (pun not intended).

  3. Finally, it is a well known fact that women's muscles are smaller in size to men's! This is not anybody's fault - it is a law of nature. Maybe Hope Solo and the rest of the women's team put in as much work physically, mentally, and emotionally as Landon Donovan's crew, but they will never be as physically good as the men! That is a fact! Do Championship or Liga Segunda players earn as much as La Liga or EPL players? No. They are not better than them. It is the same with the women's team and the men's team. The US men's team is better and plays in a more marketed environment than the women's team. It would be outrageous to pay them both equally because they are playing in two entirely different environments. Trust me when I say this. I have tried my luck at watching women's national teams play. After a good 3-4 games, it became painstakingly obvious that the women's teams are a significant standard lower than their equivalent men's teams in terms of quality.

Thus ends my rant. I hope this did not come off as sexist because some of these women take this feminism thing way too far. It annoys me when they choose to use emotion rather than reason to understand their situation.

I actually side with the women on this one,

Within a 96-page lawsuit filed on Thursday against U.S. Soccer, the sport’s governing body, by the USWNT, contain damning budget projections by U.S. Soccer showing that the USWNT are set to pull in more revenue than the USMNT for 2016 and 2017 — two crucial years of the men’s own World Cup cycle ahead of Russia 2018. In 2017 alone, the USWNT will generate $8 million more in revenue for U.S. Soccer than the USMNT.

On top of that, U.S. Soccer spends FAR more on the MT than the WT.

@Dynastain

I understand what you're saying, but it's either factually wrong or irrelevant.

For your point one: The women rake in MORE money than the men's team - see above.

Point two: You don't understand how big women's soccer is the US. No one cares about the men's national team because they suck, and America only pays attention to winners because that's the culture. Besides, Alex Morgan is hot. They get more views than the men with the only exception being the men's world cup, which is obviously only once every four years.

Point 3 is irrelevant, as that's not what is being discussed. Are women physically inferior to men? Of course. Should they get equal pay when they are more successful and bring in more revenue with less investment? To me, that's a no-brainer.
