Tottenham Sign Musa Yahaya

So, apparently Spurs have beaten Barcelona to the signature of 16-year old Nigerian wonderkid Musa Yahaya, who scored 4 goals as Nigeria won the U17 World Cup last summer. He's been dubbed the 'Nigerian Iniesta' by some, but, well, those type of names are always tossed about.

Still, judging by this video I dug up of his performances, I'm pretty bloody happy. Apparently, so long as he passes a medical later this week, we'll sign him on a 5-year contract. Let's hope he turns into something special when he comes of age!

Its really hard to predict how the players will make the step up from youth levels to playing in the premier league. The whole Nigerian U17 seems to be quite coveted. We have signed Kelechi Iheanacho (whose name is mentioned in the video screen above) and Chidi Nwakali. Hopefully it works out for all of them.

@Fred: you're right about the difficulty in predicting it. 2 years ago we picked up Souleymane Coulibaly, for instance, who was the top scorer of the U17 2011 World Cup in Mexico (9 goals for the Ivory Coast!). He impressed in our youth team, but, on loan to a Serie B side last season he didn't seem to do much. Hopefully he'll get back in the groove.

And I saw some highlights of that Iheanacho kid you're talking about -- what a striker! I actually really hope that an African nation like Nigeria (or Ivory Coast) make a huge impact in the World Cup, sometime soon.
