Time for Liverpool to go back to his glory days

Too long,

I kinda feel for Liverpool fans more and more after the last 4 seasons as an MU's fan, we both have been laughing stocks for the whole world... It's hard to swallow.

Klopp has been there for a while now, he has marked his present and embrace his character in their games. Been given enough support and now a fresh start for a new season.

We have been talking about Liverpool as a dark horse, why do we put other big guys on top of them? I think we shouldn't.

In all fairness, why Liverpool's fans and managers dont push for the top prize??? Or do they?

Someone seem to forgot they nearly went all the way in the europa league last season wich is, to be sincere, more than United did in europe last year. Saying they don't push for top prize seem a bit of an exageration in my opinion. :( Still, nice thread you made there, its cool to see a MU fan wanting to see his rival succeed. Respect. :)

Yo i would like to see them back, this season they have got what they need to push for top 4, then in the next few seasons push for the title, they have definitely got the right coach for the job and also a relatively young squad. once they have champions league football again with Klopp it will make it more of attraction for some big players, and big signings which can pull it right back up to the top.
big season ahead for them!

True guys, however playing for CUPs is entirely different from EPL. I was refering to EPL. Now, among the big guns we have these groups of mentality:

Gotta win the title, and bossing every team: Man City, Chelsea
Let's go all in and choke later or along the way, happy with top 4: Arsenal, Manchester United, (Liverpool)
Never was a big dog, but recently raising hard, happy with top 6: Spur, Everton, (Liverpool)..

Again, Im talking about mentality, the aim here

Point is, Liverpool has dragged themselves too low and now getting to top 6 is even enough for them. That's sad. As @BOBBY this has to be a big season for them, and I would feel bad if they still have their current mentality

@tuan Okay, I don't really think the team or the fan are really happy with top 6 and that it has become a mentality of them but I understand why you say that. I kinda hope that they will do better this season. I mean, Klopp had a bit more than half a season to get used to the PL and this year is gonna be the first season in wich he will have a pre-season with his team. In the end, I agree with you, this season will be an important one for them. Hopefully, they find back their fighting spirit and try to go for the top spot this season. :)

Liverpool are the English National Team of the BPL. Should be good, have a history of being good, won things a long time ago, have all the potential in the world, yet seemingly fail every year.

But they are more alike in the mindsets of their fans bases, just no expectation anymore. Even when Spurs were going through that crappy period, their fans always still screamed for top four. United is going through its worst period in 25+ years and fans still want titles. Those screams in Liverpool are whimpers at best. Even this time around, when Liverpool should be good enough to challenge for top four, the fan response has been very muted, they're so used to seeing failure they can't remember success, and they don't want to tempt fate.

In North American sports, where league competition is fantastic due to salary caps, we still see this, and we see it more often. A good example, the New York Jets. "I know we underperform now and we used to be good. But that's kind of how we identify as a club now and it's going to take one hell of a season to change that mentality."

Oftentimes, it takes a really charismatic coach come through with a great season to snap the fans out of it and inspire their old ideals. Klopp could very well be that coach for Liverpool.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-psychology-of-why-sports-fans-see-their-teams-as-extensions-of-themselves/2015/01/30/521e0464-a816-11e4-a06b-9df2002b86a0_story.html?utm_term=.6b2f69995f51

This article explains how the fans see their teams as extensions of themselves. This goes the other way around as well. If United fans hate City fans, a player like Ander Herrera, coming from Spain and not even initially able to speak English can sense the fans attitudes, and play accordingly. The lack of this can be potentially devastating, when players do not identify with the team they are playing for, they turn into "mercenaries" and their performances do not reflect the general fan attitudes. In the last decade or so, Liverpool have had tremendous problems with players embracing club identity. Does anyone here think that Torres, when he retires, will see himself as a "Liverpool player?" What about any other of the elite players there over the last decade? Even the younger ones, such as Sterling? Even Gerrard, the Liverpool god, back in 2005 had an identity crisis over Liverpool.

I have looked at Liverpool very closely in the last few years (because I was concerned that if United didn't start winning big again soon we'd turn into them) and have concluded that a lack of fan pressure, and a lack of connection to the ideal of Liverpool and winning has been incredibly detrimental to the club in their recent history. I would also argue that while traditions such as "You'll Never Walk Alone" are fantastic and mesmerizing even to me, a United fan, they don't help expectation of performance. The literal Liverpool anthem doesn't even concern winning, it's about being a unified fan base...which is great, but doesn't help winning.

Maybe I'm being to critical. But maybe not.

Excellent post @SunFlash, that's what I have been trying to express... the fans' pressures, the culture, the expectation create the club image and place them where they are!!!

Liverpool might come back to their old days but what they need to do is get rid of one thing that is biting our ass and ,no, I am not talking about Mignolet. Inconsistency. We need to keep on form in order to finish top 4. I already seen the players trying to make the fans happy but need to keep being consistence.
