Im passed the furious stage, and Im more into the depressed one now. It just doesnt make sense to have Messi as THE best player in the 2014 world cup.. Just look at the previous winners and compare their campaign to Messi's
Kempes - 1978
Rossi - 1982
Maradona 1986
Schillaci - 1990
Romario - 1994
Ronaldo - 1998
Kahn - 2002
FREAKING ZIDANE - 2006
Forlan - 2010
Just like Dynastian said.. People will look at this stats in the future and will probably think Messi did something similar to what all those other legends did to become the player of the WC. Thats why Im more depressed than angry right now, stats or awards like this define the history of a certain era, and by having this awards given to players who didnt deserve them, history would be misleading and then misunderstood by those who didnt live it.
also, a little off topic, Is Neuer a fair and deserving winner of the golden glove or not? trying no to be biased I think Navas did way better...
quote Tiki:
*“After the game we put in, we deserved a little more. It’s painful to end on the losing side after playing like we did because we were so close to the penalty shoot-out. It’s been a while since Argentina has got this far – we haven’t got past the quarter-finals in other editions. We’re upset at not being able to win the game, and there will be a lot of people giving us a hard time about it.
“Germany had control of the ball but we created the best chances. We were a little unlucky not to have put those chances away,” he continued. “We had three clear attempts: mine, El Pipa’s and Rodrigo’s but the ball didn’t go in. Now we have to look forward to the future”.*
is all that^ related to the Golden Ball? no. so then, please, as i said: stay on topic.

Well, this was a joke. James Rodriguez or Arjen Robben.
Robben and James would have nailed it, German players DONT. They are just too strong as a team, I know it's not their fault, but when we look at the Netherlands, no one here expected us to even pass the group. We missed our most important player Strootman and another creative one Van De Vart.
Colombia is a solid team but James was really outstanding.
Beside Messi (who was less impressive than the other two), they are those that dragged their lame teams up.

Diandre Yedlin.
But no, seriously, Messi didn't deserve it, and I think he knew it too. It's why he couldn't give a rat's ass about it when he was presented with it. He had to stand up there in front of the entire world, accepting this trophy that no-one is going to agree with, having just been beaten in the World Cup final and perhaps losing his chance to ever live up to El Diego.
I too feel sad for him. My heart would rather have had him lift the trophy, for the good of football. But Germany deserved it, and in Gotze's goal we were given a splendid piece of football art; well worthy of winning the greatest trophy of them all.
An emotional moment. An emotional match. An emotional tournament, and perhaps the last great tournament we shall witness, until we figure out who can get it in 2026.
My pick for player of the tournament is Schweinsteiger, and I agree with Neuer as Golden Glove winner.
@Tuanis
Exactly ! All of them were leaders and winners ! And comparison of their campaign with Messi is just disrespectful to all those legends .
Here is what real captain does when it matters the most
and his last minute freekick was just selfish .
@lodatz
"It's why he couldn't give a rat's ass about it when he was presented with it"
It is like he is a spoiled child , and FIFA , parents , trying to throw him gifts instead of his most wanted present .
If he thinks he does not deserve than he should man up and give it to James Rodriguez or refuse from trophy .
What makes me mad is that other players would have been thrilled to have a chance of winning Golden Ball . And he responds with arrogant after match interview comments : " Nothing can console him " .
Where is media bashing at him ?
What I do not understand why was Ronaldo made mockery off all over the news and internet when he won third place or did not win it against Messi ? All the cameras would zoom in on him trying to find glimpse of bitterness and then bash him for a whole year about how arrogant he is for twitching his mouth a bit . And all of the fans around the world like a sheep would do exactly what media wanted them to do.
It is mind boggling how media have been creating this legacy and hype around this player .
I personally always thought Messi is is the arrogant and disrespectful player . Two faced person . He seems like a person to me who would smile call you friend and then back stab you . ( Ibra and Villa knows it )
I don't know is it because Messi supports Israel and Ronaldo supports Palestinians ? Lets be honest media is majorly owned by Zionists corporations and supporters .
Do not get me wrong he is fantastic player but to be considered as nicest guy and greatest ever or even to be in top 5 greats , please save a breath . It is a joke to me . Even if he won World Cup , I would still not put him in my top 5 . And him winning Golden Ball is not going to put him there neither .

I understand your point Marcus about the consolation trophy, Muller deseved it, 2 nd world cup with 5 goals and a huge contribution to the win, but yes fifa is trying to give a consolation.
Messi isnt Ronaldo, he wasnt happy of the trophy at all, and he is introverted person, he isnt a leader outside the pitch, Mascerano is the true leader of Argentina, but it doesnt change the fact that Messi is the best player of modern Football...
Beware some people here are banning people for just being off topic, or maybe im the only one pointed...

@Marcus: uhmn, your opinion on Messi's characteristic is quite different from a lot of us. I completely disagree with your opinion. *"*Ibra and Villa knows it" appears to me as you are blinded by your hates, you just cant stand him and everything he does is wrong.
The picture you showed doesnt mean anything, it just means some are actively like to push up the crowd (normally with strong characteristic), and some are the quiet one. They are both fighters, but in different way.
The quiet leaders, captains, they can voice their opinions at a time they think it's best, they do their talking on the pitch and make other players feel confident, he's always there for the team and lead them up in difficult time.
They are normally the supportive kind, and not the spirit creaming kind.
This is how much golden boot meant to him
Yeah indeed, it's really nice to see. Anyway, I completely agree James was incredibly outstanding and among the 3 best of the WC.
James Rodriguez should've won both Golden Ball and Golden Boot. Head and shoulders above everyone else at the World Cup. Schweinsteiger, Kroos, and Robben are also excellent picks for the Golden Ball.
Diego Maradona: 'Messi? I would give him heaven if possible,' Maradona said. 'But it’s not right when someone wins something that he shouldn’t have won just because of some marketing plan.'

The golden award is given by TGA : Tecnical group of Fifa who give a name few minutes only after the game.
There is not really possible discussion on three of the first four winners, Paolo Rossi in 1982, Diego Maradona in 1986 and Romario in 1994. 1990 Salvatore Schillaci became the first Ballon d'Or World Cup without being crowned with his team. The Italian finished top scorer in the tournament, but Lothar Matthäus, titrated with Germany and elected France Football Ballon d'Or a few months later, seemed still more for the trophy.
Since 1998, the final seems to have been overshadowed by the TSG. Ronaldo had obtained it in 1998 despite his failure in the final for the reasons we know, Oliver Kahn in 2002 despite his mistake on the first goal of Brazil, Zinedine Zidane in 2006, despite his expulsion against Italy and Diego Forlan had not reached the final in 2010. 2014 edition follows this trend so that the final game is not taken into account when determining the best player A paradox because it is the most important competition appointment ( the final ). Although Arjen Robben (3rd behind Thomas Müller) and James Rodriguez have made spirited winners.

Man i couldn't put it in better words. And this is the truth around the matter..
@Salahdin@Marcus Messi doesnt support Israel, he went with Barça in Israel for a paid tour, yes iam ashamed of that Rossell gave Israel Barça image for 2 days, it doesnt mean Messi agrees with the crimes commited by Israelli.
And yes Ronaldo is a big Palestinian supporter, and he got all my respect for that....
