The new Nike Magista!

I'm dying to feel these things on my feet! What I thought was a Nike Mercurial prototype turned out to be the successor of the CTR model, and I think it's damn spiffy. Hello Innovation, goodbye paycheck…

Check out more pics (article is in Spanish) here: http://www.todosobrecamisetas.blogspot.com/2014/03/oficial-nuevos-botines-magista-de-nike.html

And here's an article in English by Soccer Bible: http://www.soccerbible.com/news/football-boots/archive/2014/03/06/nike-launch-the-magista.aspx

What do you all think?

I think Adidas Samba Primeknit is better.

^Now that's a piece of art.

But the Nike Magista is awesome as well (but I'd pick the Adidas Samba Primeknit over it).

What draws you toward the Adidas Primeknit and not the Magista?

For me, the Magista is just way more aesthetically pleasing. Also, the sock liner seems like a good way to utilize Nike's ACC (All Conditions Control) technology. Actually that's what I thought the sock liner was there for, to reduce any sort of sogginess in the boot by tapering it at the ankle, but they claim it's for added stability/ a barefoot feel. Again, I think they look so cool on Iniesta's and Gotze's feet! I'm not pro-Nike by the way. I have a pair of Copa Mundials at the moment.

Haha I might as well stick my shin pads in there! Or better yet they should integrate the pads… just kidding. Adidas seems like they jumped the gun on this one. No prior teasers or anything. Imagine that thing in a samba color way come this World Cup 0_o

Here's a quote straight from Nike's website to give us a little more insight on the boot design.

"The idea of Flyknit and the Dynamic Fit collar became obvious when we began testing our first prototypes - it was a new experience. It's like wearing a glove. A glove starts at the wrist, not halfway up the hand. You need that transition so you don't disrupt your body's natural movement." - Phil McCartney, VP of Sport Performance Footwear.

Edit: Still waiting on AlexBatak and Vendetta :D

I wonder how do you put it on if it extends past your ankle.

@ikoiko:

"Every footballer dreams of a boot that combines the comfort and responsiveness of playing barefoot with the protection of a traditional design. Today adidas launch their latest step towards that dream with the launch of the adidas Samba primeknit.

New levels of flexibility and comfort are provided by the one-piece knitted upper of the boot and the yarns used to construct primeknit provide stability and strength equal to conventional boots. Each yarn receives a high precision coating that guarantees water resistance even in the most challenging conditions.

The advanced production techniques used to make primeknit also allow for the one-layer upper to be constructed with zones catering to various performance needs, ensuring that the adidas Samba primeknit caters to all aspects of the game.

The design's one-piece upper is constructed without any wastage of material; making the primeknit adidas' most sustainable football boot and the start of a brand new revolution in adidas football footwear."

"Every adidas product is developed with the player in mind and in particular, the needs of the player. By producing the world's first knitted football boot we have provided a brand new solution to the search for higher levels of comfort and flexibility."

"Primeknit is a further demonstration of our commitment to driving relentless innovation in football and is designed to allow for a bespoke fit for each player, making performance more intuitive and responsive than ever before. Primeknit is a technology that is right at the heart of adidas innovation and we're excited about introducing this development into football."

I tried it out very light, accurate also killer speed and boss traction. Just the yellow model is ghastly. It's an all round good pair of tugs for any Attacking Foward.

I'm bumping this thread because I came across this old Diadora boot which implements sock-like technology too. It's interesting to see how much press this boot received ( I actually never head of the boot until now).
Imagine how horrible this boot ought to smell after a while. Either way it's interesting to see that Diadora tried to innovate something similar not too long ago. It all comes down to marketing, as well as aesthetics. Still I like the fact that the Magista has no tongue, giving a glove-like appearance, and perhaps a glove-like feel.

@ikoiko, that's an interesting piece of technology you've shown there - a sock within sock. I agree, aesthetic-wise it's admirable, but the function of it looks pretty useless - I'd have to readjust my boots every time it's out of place, which is uncomfortable, and what's the point of keeping the inner sock-like shoe on when you're never gonna wear other than football in the first place?
