The Makelele Role

I thought this was worth of sharing . Some of us fans forget how important our defensive midfielders are in the game . For Example , ever since Matic came to Chelsea , we have found the balance in midfield and transition from defense to attack goes a lot smoother as well as defending and closing down in midfield is no longer a problem.

that is the type of player we truly lack right now. We have no one in the makelele mold.

This throws me back to the 2006 world cup when Makelele was partnered by Zidane and Vieira in our midfield. When I look back at our line up, I understand how we made it to the final.

I remember in 2006, the france midfield was sick ! Vieira, Makelele and Zidane with Ribery and Malouda on the wings.

One name : Patrick Vieira. Ever since he left things are not right . Arsene never got a good replacement and Arsenal never looked the same .

^ Lassana Diarra would have been a perfect fit for the Gunners. They should have signed him after he left Real..

@wolfie spot on . He was leaving for very cheap and the only reason why he was leaving because he was up against worlds best defensive midfielders not because he was not good .

Why in the hell he left to Lokomotiv ? That is career ending club ! Arsene should have signed Diarra . Still not too late.

Veira was not a defensive mid guys. This is a very common misconception because he is tall strong and black haha. And lassana diarra was an arsenal player for a while, Wenger decided to let him go. He went to west ham if I'm not mistaken and then to real. This might have been a poor decision by wenger but we don't know how it would have worked out.

guys you knew he played for Arsenal before Real Madrid ? He came in August, played 7 games, then left to Portsmouth in January.

Yes he was amazing at Madrid. He played in the Galacticos era. He also won the CL with them and many other prizes. But when he was sold to Chelsea , Florentino said to the media that ''He was not good enough'' while other players such as Zidane said that he was ''one of the best'' in the Galacticos era.

Makelele or Real Madrid biggest mistake, his departure made Real Madrid so desperate that they signed Gravsen :).
