Well, if Liverpool refused 35M £ from Arsenal for Suarez, they will refuse RM offers too. Only a beautiful 40M£ bid can make them change their mind. Very surprised to see Arsenal on top list for Suarez, it will be a big sign to other teams that Arsenal is back for competition.

Coentrao instead of Assou Ekotto is a good replacement, but come on Spurs 7M is just not enough to convince RM.

@tiki_taka That makes sense. and I think Coentrao worth somewhere between 7-15 m he is a good player but hasn't done much yet at Real Madrid since he joined. It would be a good signing for Spurs though because he will be given a playing time. I'm not sure if what Wikipedia says is right or not, It shows that he played only 36 games since he joined in 2011 and he scored only 1 goal and made 3 assists. oh wait I just read that Real Madrid signed him for 30 million euros hmm.. Idunno I think only Real Madrid fans would give a fair value knowing all the facts. but from what I read I think 7 to 15 millions is fair.

First things first. Raul Albiol is NOT worth 12 million. More like 4 million. He's too damn lazy to play for a big club like Napoli or Madrid.

Now, about Coentrao. The dude is a brilliant defender. Not the type that likes to get forward much, but brilliant nevertheless. Saves our asses in the Clasicos. Definitely better than Marcelo at defending. Only problem is, he's inconsistent (is it just me, or does EVERY player seem to be inconsistent nowadays?). Other than that, he's a great player, with a slight temper. He should be worth around 15 million euros.

^ At DEFENDING. He is a defender who lays back (on the pitch, as in staying in defense), does his job and let's the attackers like Ronaldo go forward. Marcelo, however, or Dani Alves, go upwards to create more attcking options.

I'm not sure I want Spurs to spend 15m on a full-back who is inconsistent and has a 'slight temper'.

12 million for Albio is waaay too much, they can get a much better defender for this price

Agree with Dynastian overall.
#1- Madrid got a hell of a deal for Albiol. Not sure what Benitez's been smoking.
#2- Coentrao is a better defender than Marcelo. IMO, he's actually the better LB (he still can attack & has the skill to do so effectively when he needs to... just doesn't do it suicidally like Marcelo).
#3- I think Coentrao would be another excellent signing for Spurs but a €7m bid will have you laughed out of the Bernebeu. I think he's worth closer to £12-14m. But anyway, don't they have Danny Rose? They could just try blooding him with BAE as a backup.

PS - As good as Benteke is... he's one of those players that has no qualms with throwing his toys out of his pram to force a move. He's done it 3x already and he's only 22! If you did land him though, he'd be a real threat in the meantime. Just not sure I'd pay £25m for an unproven 22 yo with a very questionable transfer history.

@Lodatz

Fabio Coentrao statistics

2.7 tackles per game
2.2 interceptions per game
0.9 fouls per game
3 clearances per game
0.6 blocked shots per game
Was dribbled by 0.4 times per game :)

Marcelo statistics

1.9 tackles per game
2 interceptions per game
0.7 fouls per game
1.2 clearances per game
0.1 blocked shots per game
Was dribbled by 0.7 times per game

Assou-Ekotto statistics

1.3 tackles per game
3.3 interceptions per game
1.2 fouls per game
3.5 clearances per game
0.3 blocked shots per game
Was dribbled by 0.8 times per game

So you see, Spurs can have a huge advantage with Coentrao. He averages nearly 3 tackles per game, whilst Assou-Ekotto barely averages 1, and Marcelo nearly 2. The only places Assou-Ekotto beats Coentrao in is interceptions per game (3.3 to 3) and clearances per game (3.5 to 3), both of which are by small margins.

@Dynast: my point wasn't that BAE is somehow better than Coentrao. Believe me, at the Lane we are well aware of BAE's defensive deficiencies... ;)

My point was that if we're going to get a new left-back, which is not the priciest of departments to begin with, I'm not sure I want Spurs to shell out 15m for someone who has attitude issues and is not terribly consistent. In short: why get a more expensive, slightly better version of the guy we're already fed-up with?

As Foota said, we have Danny Rose too, who while not exactly a 'superstar' name like those on the roster at Madrid, is looking to be a very competent and capable LB, and... we already have him.

I'd rather offload BAE for 7m, and pick up someone like Umtiti for 10m.

Against Barcelona :) he's good but certainly not worth 38 m. if he's worth 38 m, then suarez is worth like 80 m

@JuanMata

Mate, you can't judge a player from ONE match. I've watched Illara all season (and I agree with you that he is not worth 38 million), but he is certainly going to be worth it if he lives up to his potential in Madrid. Illara's true transfer value is approximately 13 million, and Suarez 40 million. The problem is, Liverpool ought to have accepted that offer, because Higuain in and of himself is a 30 million player, and in total, that's 41.5 millions euros that Madrid will be paying to get Luis to our team.

If Arsenal get Suarez, RM will strugle to sell Higuain... Suarez is beter than Higuain, i hope Arsenal can have it adding 12M to what RM expects.

transfers going like crazy

@Dynastian: Who says I've only seen him play in one match? The question was "When was the last time you saw him play?" and not "How many times have you seen him play?". In my opinion that's still very expensive for a player who had his first outstanding season, while a player who's at a constant world class level since 2 or 3 years would only cost 5 m more.
