The Fastest Player in the Premier League is...

Manchester United 104 1380

The French hot-shot managed to clock an incredible speed of 22 miles per hour over five seconds when Louis van Gaal’s Reds drew 3-3 against Newcastle at St James' Park earlier this month, which is exactly the same speed registered by Leicester forward and top scorer Vardy earlier in the campaign.

The EA Sports PPI is the Premier League's official rating index that measures a player's contribution to his team using six key indices. The intention is to "remove any opinion bias and only work with proven statistical measurements" which become more accurate as the season progresses.

Here are the Premier League’s six fastest players after 22 matches played in 2015/16:

1: ANTHONY MARTIAL 22 MPH
2: JAMIE VARDY 22 MPH
3: JEFFREY SCHLUPP 21.9 MPH
4: KYLE WALKER 21.8 MPH
5: DIVOCK ORIGI 21.8 MPH
6: PAUL DUMMETT 21.8 MPH

Fifa logic has backfired because Walcott is nowhere to be seen.

Also, Arsenal fans are about to be very angry about Bellerin not even being mentioned. :)

Let them be angry, it's stats, not opinions. Bellerin is fast, and I know he's tracked back or overlapped enough for him to register on this scale.

While I knew Martial was pacey, I didn't realize he was this fast.

@SunFlah I really don't care if they are angry because I know they are wrong. I just have a lot of friends who are Arsenal supporters and they always talk about how fast Bellerin is, and now, according to stats he isn't fast so I pretty sure they won't be too happy. ;)

I also never thought Martial was that fast but I think it is his running style that makes him seem not so fast, when really he is.

Pace is funny thing. FIFA (the game) claim that Walcott is the fastest, when many PL fans know that Bellerin is faster. However these stats show that Martial is the fastest but I've seen Zouma outsprint him. But, Zouma and Remy claimed that Azpi is the fastest at the club.

I'm pretty sure many of us would love an athletics meet to rank these players clearly.

I think Zouma could outsprint Bellerin.

measures a player's contribution to his team using six key indices
six fastest players after 22 matches played

This isn't who has the ability to go the fastest but who has had the opportunity to go the fastest so far, at least that's what I took from this.

@Gustavo

If a player has played 22 games and hasn't had a five second sprint even once they don't deserve to be in the conversation.

The six key indices are referring to PPI, which is not where the speed was collected, so I'm not certain why it's relevant.

@SunFlash

Maybe they had the five second sprint, but maybe not the reason to go the fastest they can.

If they have the pace and then don't use it what's the point?

These stats are for running specifically, which all in all is not very important. If anyone remembers the glory days of Torres, he wasn't super fast or anything, but his change of pace was unbelievable, he could go from 0 to 15 in a heartbeat. Imo that's far more important than flat-out speed.

This data as always is very suspicious and nobody really understands how it is measures. It happened in the WC as well and has been giving doubtful results since some time ago. I still dont get what exactly determines who is the fastest but the results always confuse the majority.

Had no idea Vardy was so fast. And as for Martial, he is just proving slowly he is not another overrated player to come to the EPL as a promising future star.

@Tuanis I agree with what you said about Martial not being a overrated player. The kid has a lot of potential. :D

On another note, never trust something if EA had something to do with it. They're only in it for your cash. :(

@SunFlash What I'm saying is that every game is different. Maybe it wasn't tactfully advantageous for X player to go as fast as he can. Maybe the system of his team doesn't allow him to go full. All I'm saying is if someone is going to make statements like "X player is the fastest player in the premier league", then they need to get better at backing up their claims.

This is not how you do it, btw. In the real world, if anyone made a claim without providing verifiable evidence then they would be ridiculed.

"Fastest in 2015/16" is a better title, and makes more sense, but can still be misleading.

I just hate sport journalism and its click bait mentality.

^If a player is fast enough to reach 22mph and in 22 games he didnt manage to run at least once because of tactical decisions then A) the coach is an idiot, B) he isnt that fast irl or C) He is probably a GK..

This is all the data we have, Martial according to EA and the study they've been doing, is the fastest player in the EPL so far. There isnt much else to discuss. I dont think any players got excluded because it seems the conditions are the same for any of them. All they had to do was sprint for ~5 seconds at a decent speed.. once.
