Sin-bin idea (10 min suspension during the match)

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson says that he is looking into the feasibility of introducing ‘sin-bins’ into football.

Already implemented in rugby, the practice would see players sent off for a set period of time for certain offences before being allowed back onto the pitch.

What do you think about the sin-bin? I think it might be a great idea, but make be they should consider an alternative like:

Suspension for the following half (or 30 min) of the match. The punishment start in the very next half the player is going to play (or they can decide to continue the game and be suspended in the following game).

Ferguson, now heading a Uefa panel of elite coaches, also preivously welcomed Uefa's decision to wipe out yellow cards accumulated in the Champions League when the competition reaches the quarter-final stage to avoid players missing the final through suspension.

The 10 minutes would be a great idea, making the game crazy for 10 minutes, its also used in handball.
I think it would be good because a red straight red can ruin a tight game, this will add more crazyness in closed games...
Very smart by SAF, it will give the ref more choices to apply the decision, when you know the other team will play with 10 for 10minutes you give it all knowing you will loose this advantage.
Its good for the intensity.

Would be great if instead of booking players for diving, they sent them off for 10 minutes, I doubt there are going to dive again.

sounds good for me .. 15 mins would be ok. It should be more rules like..If same player make 2nd ban in one game, he is off for the whole game. If team get over 3 bans in one game, one player must be banned for the whole game too.... oh, and red card + penalty is way too much punishment for the team. Especially "last man" rule .. except if it was horrible tackle .

It sound like a decent idea but deciding when to give this wouldbe very hard for refs (thery are having a hard time already making calls). What would the type of offence be for it to be considered worthy of a red card, yellow card or a sin-bin?

Give them to the opposition supporters for 10 minutes. No one will do anything wrong again

This would make games extremely uneven and the scorelines ridiculous. Imagine Barcelona getting 3 yellow cards in the space of 15 minutes, and being 8 v 11 against Real Madrid. That's insane. I completely disagree with this idea.

It would also add in even more controversy with referee decisions. People would start debating whether a foul was a yellow card or an orange card or a red card. It would be ridiculous. Too many orange cards within a small amount of time can also destroy a team's chances of winning a game, especially when it is a crucial one. Let football stay like football. Rugby is a different sport, and we shouldn't try to accommodate their rules into our sport.

^that's only for something that's not enough for red card nd was worse than a yellow card
it's more likely for ramos and pepe and coentrao to get the bokings

I agree it would be hard for the ref to judge but it should be much easier to call that for a red. Because the semi-harsh red card can destroy the game permanently (of course there are always exceptions).

A 10 to 15 minutes ban, will put a team in a very difficult and intense period, but they at least have a chance to bounce back after that. That give the game a lot of dynamics.

@Dynastian: having said that, I think any team would be stupid to have 3 players suspended, ANY team will be extra careful when they are 1 player down (even for 10 min)... what about 3 reds in similar circumstances??? that way worse. of course the ref would think twice if there has already been a player suspended before (especially at the same time).

I love the idea of banning the obvious diving player, it's too harsh to get red, but it's lovely to ban him for 10 min. :D.

Im all for retaining football as it is, but this chance sounds good.
