This guy should play somewhere on Europe IMO..
Too soon to go there, he should come back to Europe.
He was very average in Juventus to be honest. But I guess that speaks of the level of the MLS. An average European player becomes the very best player in the MLS.
I'm a little overprotective of MLS because it gets infinitely more crap thrown its way by Euro fans than it deserves. (a.k.a rain)
But Giovinco was amazing this year. He's massively improved as a player. While I can't speak for how good he was with Juventus, he was called up to the Italy squad this year and only played in one game (as a substitute, he was injured for his other call-up, and TFC's playoffs interfered with the others) and in that thirty-odd minutes he was the best player on the Italian team by a country mile.
I've seen a lot of "great" players in MLS and almost all of them were underwhelming. Beckham was awful for his first season, and frankly played better on loan at AC Milan than he ever did in LA. Gerrard and Lampard were diabolical this year. Aside from Giovinco, the only "great" player who has exceeded expectations in MLS was Drogba, and his playstyle is perfect for MLS.
Source: I've watched more MLS games this week than any of you have, ever. If you want an exciting league this is it. I honestly can't remember the time we had a 0-0 draw.
He should go to a Premier League club or Bundesliga
he should star in the next Ant-Man as a cameo. but seriously, perhaps a mid-table spanish team would suit him. a bit like Rossi at Villareal back in the day. Eredivisie also could be an option. the EPL is too physical for him i think.
No Giovinco should stay and become greatest MLS player of all time . I am sure his records won't be broken for a very long time . Until Messi or Ronaldo comes to MLS .
@Marcus, it'd be pretty hard to top Donovan.
Pff Donovan look at Giovinco season ... He is In his prime years , just 28 .
I wouldn't go to some mid-table of the Europe top flight leagues as some suggested... why not staying in MLS and build his legacy? Pity though i still think he can play in Europe for a couple of years more
@Sun, I actually lived in Chicago and attended many Chicago Fire games. Lets just say it was pretty crappy all the time. Barros Schelotto joined up Columbus Crew and basically topped the league for his 3 years there. Henry did the same thing. Its very well known that MLS is basically a retirement league.
League's come a long way in ten years mate.
Guy't don't forget, he's playing for Toronto - a very shitty team for MLS standards before he moved there.
Toronto FC dedicated this nice page to him, there you can check all his goals and trivia. we could say the "Messi" of the MLS lol.
