Interesting stuff.
Having said that wonder what would happen if Schalke put more of their resources into buying players/improving academy instead. I've heard their stadium is cutting edge, and now this.

@Phenohyte hopefully they will bounce up next season!
The Bundesliga has recently changed the rules and is introducing sleeve sponsorships, similar to the ones for La Liga and the Premier League. However, Schalke is taking a deal a step further by implementing a new chip technology, here is the official statement:
Although no one really asked for it, it is still an innovative addition to a football jersey, as fans can buy food and drinks with their sleeve chips. Alexander Jobst, head of marketing of Schalke has said that the club was “delighted to confirm AllyouneedFresh as a long-term partner with an excellent reputation…This further underlines our positions as a leading innovator within the Bundesliga.”
According to The DailyMail, players will not have the payment chip in their jerseys for games, as Schalke communications head Anja Kleine-Wilde explained to The Associated Press that "they rarely go to kiosks at halftime to quickly get a curry sausage or a beer." Kicker magazine reports the deal is worth around 20million euros ($22.million) altogether to Schalke.
