Irina has Ronaldo's 4th and 5th Ballon D Ors laying in her chests, so I don't know if Ronaldo would want to fall back 1 behind Messi when breaking up with Irina. Out of jokes, I think this is pretty interesting as just a few days ago, they were together celebrating Christmas... Maybe Ronaldo got mad because Irina preferred to stay in NYC with friends instead of accompanying him to the Ballon D Or ceremony in Zurich?

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's not mandatory for your spouse to travel with you to the ceremony. It's acceptable, but not mandatory. Maybe she didn't want to travel all the way to Switzerland again when she's enjoying herself elsewhere?
