Former Birmingham striker Christian Benitez has tragically passed away at the age of 27 in a car crash in Qatar. He moved to Qatari club El Jaish for a fee of 10 M pounds, and had yet to make an appearance for his new club. May he rest in peace.

Christian Benitez did not die in a car accident.

Benitez died in a Qatari hospital into which he was admitted because of abdominal pains. Apparently he suffered a large infection in the area (could have been related to appendicitis) and died of a heart attack.

@Ikoiko

Rumors are that either

#1 He died in a car crash or

#2 He died of a cardiac arrest. I honestly don't know how he died, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that we've lost a man who died doing what he loved to do best: playing football. Not many people can say that about their life.

I've read that he had stomach pains, then went into a coma, and later died of cardiac arrest...
Anyways, he was a great player for us and was the top goalscorer for 3 consecutive seasons. He also helped us win our 11th championship. Rest in peace, Chucho.

@Dynastian, The manner in which he died does matter actually. I wouldn't want someone to think I passed away fishing when in reality I was skydiving. Many sources say that he did die in a hospital, and the cause was NOT a car accident. There is also evidence that there was a lack of communication due to the language barrier and this prolonged medical attention.

I am in no way taking away from this man's life! He was a great footballer.

It's in spanish. The information that this man is relaying is directly from Chucho's family members.
