You got it wrong too. Had it been over the half line, it would've been offside - because TWO(2) men have to be behind the Vertonghen in order not to be called offside, in this case there was ONE(1) because I guess GK was coming up towards corner kick?
The reason why this SHOULDN'T be offside, is that Vertonghen was behind the half line.

We saw some ridiculous referee decisions in EPL lately, but this is just way too bizarre. Tottenham was playing against Sunderland, and Vertonghen's goal was disallowed because of "offside". And defender was few meters away of player.
