Scheduled talks between Real Madrid and Gareth Bale’s representatives have been called off.

According to Spanish website Punto Pelota, Santiago Bernabeu officials decided to cancel the discussions after gathering that Bale was not keen on leaving White Hart Lane this summer.

The Spurs star has been in scintillating form this season, which has lead to increased speculation that he could be on his way to La Liga and Real Madrid or Barcelona.

It is not only Spanish clubs that have been linked with a Bale bid; Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Roberto Mancini at Manchester City have both been credited, as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

However, Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he hopes qualification for the Champions League next season will persuade to stay on with Spurs for longer, though accepted it will be difficult to keep hold of him.

Another reason Bale may decide to stay in north London could be the £150,000-a-week contract chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly ready to offer him.

Bale has scored 11 goals in Spurs’ last ten games and is proving to be almost impossible to handle for opposition defenders.

The Punto Pelota report also claims the 23-year-old has turned down the opportunity of discussions with Barcelona due to way they have conducted themselves with his agents and Levy.

Bale apparently only wants a move that will represent a good deal for both he and Tottenham and he is ready to wait another season for it.

Happy happy joy joy. :)

And it was Cruyff who came to Barcelona as a manager and decided that things were to now go in a certain direction. The players are to learn "tiki-taka" football, and the game will be centralized around some new, young players (Romario, Guardiola). And when the club is in need of a player, they will go to their youth ranks to promote a player to the first team. In the meantime, the youth players will learn tiki-taka football as they are growing up, therefore they will be an easy fit into the first team, ensuring the club's success (since the youth players will have already mastered the tiki-taka style in their 3-8 year stay at La Masia).

And yet.... the ridiculous politics in Catalonia create all these problems. Cruyff has lived in Catalonia since the day he retired, and is fluent in Spanish and Catala (Catalan traditional language). He has even given his son a traditional Spanish name (Jordi Cruyff). He has done more for the club than, say di Stefano for Madrid. His contributions are basically equivalent to Sir Bobby Charlton's and Sir Matt Busby's for Manchester United. And he is still not respected at the Catalan capital, simply because he is not pure Catalan.

At least the part of Royal Spain is not that stubborn. I remember when Ronaldinho tore up Madrid with those two fantastic goals of his, the whole Bernabeu crowd stood up and gave him a standing ovation. And they were all Madrid fans. That incident has only happened twice, with Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho being the two recipients of such respect from the Spanish capital. I never remembered Barcelona fans at the Camp Nou giving a standing ovation to any Real Madrid player, despite all the great players we have in our illustrious history. I am not blaming Barcelona fans for this, but the idiotic people at the Camp Nou who want their team to win for Catalunya, not for their club's sake. They want Barcelona to succeed because they are the sole successful representative of Catalunya recognized worldwide. And it is saddening, since they are rather racist even to Barcelona players who are not Catalan or of Spanish heritage. It's just plain sad.
