Real Madrid face disqualification?

Well, just read that.

Denis Cheryshev started and scored the club's opener against Cadiz, but he is suspended in this competition.

Real Madrid risk being thrown out of Spain's premier cup competition after appearing to field an ineligible player in their Copa del Rey clash with Cadiz on Wednesday night.

Russian winger Denis Cheryshev started the game for Los Blancos in a heavily-rotated XI and even opened the scoring in the first few minutes.

But it has emerged that the 24-year-old should have been serving a one-game suspension in this competition after accruing three yellow cards in five cup games last year for Villarreal.

I don't know if the ban continues from the last season, maybe La Liga fans will tell us more what may happen?

How do you fuck up this bad? ffs RM is not a small team to make stupid decisions like that. god damnit.

Looks like it's true. Cadiz's management stated to respect Madrid, but they would do anything to proceed further in the competition, reasonably enough.

If further action is taken against RM, then this is really embarrassing :(

Simply embarrassing and stupid from a club that is touted as one of the best in the world. I can't believe the organization could make such a childish erro as to let an illegal player play. Doesn't anyone keep track of our suspended players? How f*cking careless can you get?

Sorry for rant, but this really frustrates me. It frustrates me that we've done something deserving disqualification. A dumb mistake that could've been avoided easily BY KEEPING TRACK OF SUSPENDED PLAYERS.

Someone is getting fired... Typical "you only had one job" situation. I dont blame Rafa, in a club as big as Madrid someone has to have the records for all players.

Im still not sure they'll be kicked out. Madrid has enough power to pay Cadiz three times the amount they would have gotten for going through.

funny fact. It is not Benitez's first time being kicked out of the cup for illegal lineups.

Lets not blame Rafa he is under pressure but other Real Madrid Staff or officials should know who is suspended and who is not suspended. This is a joke we are not a baby club and who ever made the mistake could get fired easily if we get disqualified.

arent refs supposed to see the team sheet before the game? if nobody had the problem during the game it seems so we should rather move on as well lol

=))) funny one from Pique... it's super laughable though.

Every club has a tracking system on player stats, condition, cards and suspension, or should have... those are extremely easy to implement so I dont get it either.

Trust me Real Madrid deserves to (and must) be kicked out of this competition for the sake of absolute stupidity, but you got a very good point there. How didn't anyone else notice it? They could've changed the lineup before the game.

Did actually someone from Cadiz know it, but didn't want to remind so they could protest after the game lol;)?

@DecentK

Yeah, Cadiz reportedly asked for a list of suspended players for that round's Copa matches on the morning before the game, and that's where they saw Cheryshev's name. Three groups/people at fault here in my eyes...

  1. Real Madrid for not knowing the suspensions of their own players
  2. The officials for not checking the lineups and noticing a banned player was on it
  3. Cadiz for knowing in advance and for not filing the complaint earlier. Cadiz themselves had a suspended player but he was on the bench and didn't come on.

To avoid these things in the future, I would suggest that a tracking chip be planted in every player, and every time there is a situation where a player is suspended, a parameter should be sent to the tracking chip so that the HQ is notified whenever a player approaches a danger zone (football stadium). imho

Perez now want to counter suing the federation if RM's out. He said:

If the player didn't tell us, Villarreal didn't tell us and the Federation didn't tell us, how were we supposed to know?

Seriously?

Rafa Benitez's Valencia were eliminated from the Copa Del Rey in 2001 for fielding an illegible player.

There is undefenitely an unprofessional error. For a big club like Real things like that can't be happening. Sack Benitez.

Real have been expelled from the cup but are looking to appeal due to a claus saying they have to be aware or notified. Its complete bull and they know it. Its the clubs responsibility to check things like this and I dont believe its rafas fault. He has a full board of people working with him. Im glad Real got punished.

Cadiz for knowing in advance and for not filing the complaint earlier

Can't really blame them, it's a massive money they get for going through (considering they're not even playing in Segunda)

Cadiz themselves had a suspended player but he was on the bench and didn't come on.

What does rules say about this? (I have no clue)

Sorry to bring this sh*te again, but it's kinda stupid that Zagreb played ineligible player (Doping) too & didn't get kicked out of competition. In that sense you'd think that ---- Playing under Doping > Playing under suspension
