UEFA grades each league (coefficient number) and allots the spots based upon that number.
only 3 leagues can have 4 spots (Or 3,5 spots as it actually is)
yea, it all stacks up. Stadium quality, ticket sales, and on field preformance from the club of the league's.
the better your league does in Europe the higher grade points it will get, thats why after Italy struggled for too long they lost there 4th UCL spot and were reduced to 3.
and with the SPL. there UCL Preformers got worse and worse so theyve been degraded to 1 UCL preformer (that being the champion obviously)
Ligue 1 remains at 3 because there clubs dont get blown to the wind and usually make knockout round appearances, and play good quality football.. despite them only having 1 UCL winner ever.
The Dutch Competitiveness in Europe continues to shrink, thats why they have 2 UCL spots.. but there not bad enough to be degraded to 1 for a long time.
while on the contrast, Spanish and German clubs continue to go far over and over again witch keeps them at 4.
even though it doesnt feel like they do, its mainly the work of a sole few clubs that can give an entire league more spots (like us and Real Madrid in Spain, Bayern Munich in Germany.)
so even clubs that hate us would want us to suceed so THERE CLUB can make the UCL the next year with more ease.
Thanks guys.
Why does EPL, Liga, and Bundesliga have four qualifying spots, and Seria A and Ligue 1 only have three?
