It's a joke that her goal is even nominated to be honest.
Van Persie, without a doubt
@ pupper, now how do you come to that conclusion?
@Pupper: yeah, why is that? I found her goal astonishingly beautiful
Of course I think her goal is beautiful, but context is very important in football (only reason RVP's and James' goal made it to the top 3, since they scored these goals in WC). For example, if a player scored a similiar goal to Stephanie Roche's in Saudi Arabia Division 10, I don't think you would rate that goal anywhere to all of these goals, even though it would have been 10x as beautiful.
And lets be real, her goal only got nominated because she's a woman. Fair enough, but I really think they should have their own puskas award, or simply just drop it and don't get nominated to begin with. After all, it's two completely different sports.
And on another note, I'm pretty sure there's been scored thousands of similiar goals to her goal in amateur football throughout the year, but why aren't these nominated since context doesn't matter anyways?
(I don't take this award any seriously, despite my comment. But, I just find this whole thing somewhat silly.)

Context is somehow important but shouldn't be at all... If it was C Ronaldo or Messi who scored that beauty then it would be considered the best goal in football history, which is not fair. Puskas award is not about the context it is purely about the goal itself.
You say a ton of goals similar to that one could have happened in other leagues but non of them get nominated. Well it is simply because amateur leagues are never transmitted or recorded to have a copy of the goal which is obviously needed for the award.
I say if she wasnt a woman that goal would win by a very high margin. The fact that is was a woman who scored it if anything just reduces the chances of winning the award.
Even though I kind of agree that they should have their own category you sound very sexist. This girl scored a as awesome as no other guy could score in an entire season so woman have the right to be nominated in the same category as guys.
"Puskas award is not about the context it is purely about the goal itself.", yet 2 of the top 3 goals was from WC. There's a reason these got nominated. You really think these goals would have been nominated or at least make it to the top 3, if these were scored in Segunda B etc, in a WC year?
And I'm not being sexist, but it's pretty obvious why they are forced to include one goal from women.

Im stating what in theory the Puskas award is given for, sadly people all around the world vote and many of them tend to get carried away by other factors as you mentioned.
But you are saying that the context makes a difference and the fact that it is an important goal from an important player helped those two get into the final nominees. But then you say that the fact that Roche's goal is in here is because the situation with that goal is a completely opposite of the other two, it is female football and in a league nobody even recognises so for me the fact that she got so far is more of a merit. It is by faar the best goal so I dont think being a woman helps her but if anything it will sadly harm her in the voting.
I dont think anyone can deny, taking into consideration only the goal itself and not the context, that Roche's goal is way superior than the other two and even most of the other bunch of nominees.
I honestly hope you are more of a troll than one of those users with a "special" kind of opinion for everything.

So these are the goals.. Im a little disappointed with the final 3 but with this many disappointments regarding FIFA lately most of us have moved on to accept them.
If the Ballor D'Or award is given to the most mediatic player the Puskas award is way worst. I hope Roche wins it for the sake of Football. The other two goals were just good goals scored in the WC which were overrated a lot.
You can vote here: http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/puskas-award/
I didnt vote for this award in the other stages so I feel slightly guilty about having this as the top 3, so go and cast your vote and watch the other 7 goals which ended up conforming the top 10.
