Paris Saint-Germain...

What does everyone think of PSG?
Undoubtedly they are one of the best teams in Europe but they have always failed to prove themselves as they have never won the Champions League despite spending highly on new talent. This is obviously their aim, hence the reason they brought in Unai Emery who had done so well with Sevilla in the Europa League. However Emery has never had much experience and success as a coach in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Do you think PSG will manage to focus also on the league and retain the title as well as succeed in defeating Barcelona to progress in the Champions League?

I think that PSG is having a shite season and that those who were of the opinion that Ibra and Blanc carried the team were probably correct, judging by the performance after they have gone. It's not like the rest of Ligue 1 has gotten stronger either.

As for your question, I think they'd need to show a level they haven't this season to beat Barca, and have to fully focus on the league to MAYBE win it. It is not a question of picking one or the other, the concept that they could fail at both is a reality right now.

Monaco and Nice are stronger this year, but yeah, they are not having a good season either. Not by a long shot. Zlatan leaving was one huge blow and Blanc leaving didn't help. Unai Emery might got a lots of ressource but he can't buy reputation and motivation. Not a lots of player actually think of PSG when they think world class club with lots of history after all. :(

@Emobot7
Yes I agree. PSG wanted to try something new with Emery but Blanc would still have them in a better position now that they are!

Lol my type of forums, but in my opinion PSG are a great side that are missing consistency in attacking areas.

They let Blanc go, and Zlatan go, and didn't bring in any kind of good replacement to ease the scoring burden on Cavani (who I don't personally like). They then decided to bring in Ben Arfa and I don't need to say how good he's been.....

In defence, they made a similar mistake, letting David Luiz go and not bringing in anybody. Marquinhos and half-season-injured THiago Silva are not adequate.

Their midfield is good, but Jese has not been a success and with Lavezzi leaving, it is now imperative Draxler performs well for them.

I called it, they where going to do terrible with Emery.
It is really hard to do well in CL when domestically you have next to no competition for "sparing" If Barcelona was placed to play in the Eredivise then they would have a really hard time playing CL because of the level difference.

@Tuanis Well, they are in third place in their league and have been beaten by team much weaker than them so its funny saying they got no competition in their own league. Beside, La Liga itself have 3 good team, 5 or 6 team that are quite decent and the rest are really fodder for the bigger gun, not the most competitive league either in my opinion. Well, even though I agree its still a bit more interesting than Bundesliga and than League 1.

They didn't have competition before, now instead of the other teams becoming stronger they just lowered their level and now have competition but it doesn't help at all. Lack of competition cost them the important fixtures in CL.

Agree with @Emobot!!! +1

Partially agree with @Tuanis, they have been sleeping because of the easiness of league 1. But this season suddenly things changed and they seems lost, in addition to the lack of good replacements for Blanc and Zlatan as @saatvik pointed out.

But still they are a strong side, despite the less-likely to win, if they have the right confident, and with Barca's mid is in shiet form, they might have a chance

@Tuanis In my opinion, this year, its not like only lack of competition in their league but instead, the fact that PSG have weakened via losing Zlatan, Blanc and even David Luiz that they are not doing well in CL and propably won't get by the first knockout round. With the squad they have, I wouldn't really expect them to beat Barca even at their best. They lack a quality player at front and at back and their midfield despite having tons of player that can play there just seem to lack a bit of imagination. Unless Barca keep their current form or get even worse and that PSG suddenly find their form, I just can't see them making it trough the next round. :(

@tuan_jinn Thanks. :D

Thats what Im saying. PSG used to have a great team player by player, team-wise, and mannager. Not any more. When they used to have everything the lack of competition really affected them in CL when facing big teams. Now they just suck, with a few changes in the squad and manager they cant even win the league they previously won by over 15pts...

@Tuanis Indeed. On another note, with them changing manager, they need a time of adaptation and while the league is not over and that they could still win it. The fact that their still behind half the season later doesn't seem to show sacking Blanc was an improvement.
