World Cup winner and former Tottenham favourite Ossie Ardiles is in hospital following a car crash. Sky Sports News (SSN) reported that the 61-year-old Argentinian was involved in a motoring accident in the Falklands.
The midfielder's former Spurs team-mate Ricky Villa, 61, was also reportedly in the same car but there has been no word on the extent of any injuries sustained in the accident.
A nurse confirmed to SSN that Ardiles was indeed in hospital in the Falkland Islands and although she said he was 'fine', did not elaborate on his condition nor that of his ex-team-mate. And the South Atlantic News Agency reported that Ardiles was airlifted to King Edward Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the capital of the Falklands, following the accident on Monday night.
Both players were part of an Argentina side that lifted the 1978 World Cup, held in their own country, before heading to London later that summer to join Tottenham. While at White Hart Lane, the pair were part of a Tottenham team that collected the FA Cup in 1981, with Villa scoring the winner against Manchester City in the replay at Wembley.Ardiles went on to manage Tottenham, as well as Newcastle and West Brom.
