If you were referring to that 94 PK shoot out, you should also know that he wasn't the only one who missed. Others missed too. How many players won the World Cup over several deserving ones. And if people are judging him based on that one game, they're just ignorant, and their opinion does not matter. He is my favourite Italian followed by Pirlo. And my top 3 strikers of all the time with Pele, and Alfredo Di Stéfano.

If He lifted the 94' world cup, he would have been named best Italian player ever. He is surely in my top 10 all time midlefielders but competely unknown from the young generations...

Wasn't he named the best Italian player ever already? Am I missing something?

Unfortunately his dodgy haircut & the penalty miss are what he is known for me mostly. Thx for a reminder that he could actually play football. I still think Zizou has the best first touch ever.

goosebumps, thanks for this. a couple of days ago came out an interview with him where he said that at one point he begged his mom to end his life because he couldn't stand the pain of his legs anymore. 6 major surgeries after career breaking injuries, he always came back with his class intact. you can see that in the first 20 secs of the video. amazing player and especially amazing person. lot of people abused his good nature during his career, mistreated him, tried to put him down. he always replied on the pitch. his dream as a kid was to play a WC final vs Brazil, even if he missed that pen, his dream was fulfilled. Divin Codino.

Thanks, he used to be my childhood hero, the legendary pony tale, my aunt cried when he missed that last penalty... (my mom and aunt liked him most for his handsome figure hahaha).

He was and still is the role model for lots of football players... barely had any scandal.

Not really forgotten, I immediately knew who you were referring to when I saw the title, but you do have a point when you say that he's heavily underrated. My uncle was a massive fan of Baggio so I kind of grew up being aware of him and spent tons of hours watching his vids (amongst others). What stands out is that he always kept coming back after suffering from so many injuries and his footballing IQ, of course. Especially the scene at 9:18! I also remember seeing a vid some time ago, where Guardiola tells young Messi that Baggio was the best player he ever played with.

@shpalman: Can you share the link of the interview, please?

Baggio for me = Iniesta + Pirlo :), he was very complete. So unlucky to get all those injuries and not to win WC, he is no different caliber from Zidane as a potential but not getting the same recognition tho.

@tiki: Well, he was a combination of a playmaker and - above all - a fantastic finisher, so I don't really see much of Iniesta in him. Tough to think of a similar player, though!

@shpalman: Thank you very much!
