Not really that happy about this one. I mean, of course Villa is a great player, and has been fantastic for Spain, but, he's also now pretty old and fragile, and I've had question marks for years about whether he could handle the physicality of English defenses on a weekly basis.

Of course, at that price, it's a bargain anyway, but, I seriously hope that even if Spurs do edge Arsenal for him (not saying that will happen) he's not the only forward we go for.

We need height, power and youth, basically.

Yes, I agree, Spurs do need a youth. But they need a very good experienced CF at the moment, and if you can get a world class one like David Villa, for that price, I would take it.

Hmmm...
I would say that Damaio is their best choice at the moment. If only they were more willing to splash the cash. :/

Under contract until 2014, David Villa is announced on starting this summer. And the Catalan daily Sport reveals the combined Tottenham and Atletico Madrid interests, each making an offer of 12 million euros.

Except, apparently, Barcelona would not want to separate from her attacker 31 years that price, and ask more. € 15 million, this is the minimum amount required by the blaugrana training for a departure of Spanish international.

I won't complain! I really won't!

OKay, I admit it, I'd be excited. I just maintain that he can't be our only striker target. We need more, and younger.

Any idea what sort of wages he's used to?

That's gotta be a deal-breaker, though, surely. We can't afford those wages long-term. Maybe he's taking a pay-cut, or maybe it's only a 1 season contract?

Footmercato :

<< Compete for a qualifying spot in the Champions League next season, Arsenal and Tottenham are also competing revelation of the year in the Premier League: Christian Benteke (22 years).

Author of an excellent first season in England (34 games, 19 goals), it is a good deal for Aston Villa. Recruited to 8 million euros last summer, the Belgian striker priority Spurs in The Mirror, is now more than double. Indeed, the Villans require at least 22 million euros to let his gem, which does not exclude stay. However, relegation at the end of season could change that. >>

i'm sure now that Bale is leaving, Tottenham is very active in transfer market without being sure to have C1 bonus, hope im wrong :)

^^ We've got a decent expectation of selling other players, like BAE, Parker, Adebayor, etc, to raise funds. We do have some cash in the bank too, just not enough to start trying for the likes of Cavani.

I guess we'll see, but by this point, I'm feeling fairly confident that Bale will be at Spurs next season.
