You can't expect them to beat everyone...

Even the mighty Barcelona from 2008-11 never went undefeated in La Liga. Neither did Manchester United in 06-09.

A defeat is a defeat and it was a good and exciting game to watch. We were not clinical today and wasted many chances. We had many shots that either hit the post or saved by brilliancy Goalkeeping. They relied on counter attacks but this is the only way to play against Chelsea at the moment and this defeat was very important for Mourinho and the players to work much harder especially at being clinical. Anyways I didn't expect us to go undefeated for the whole season that's impossible with such match schedule. We are playing a game every 3 days the players are extremely tired. Good win for Newcastle.

I didnt watch the game, cant have a proper opinion, but i still think Chelsea needs a better player than Willian in midlefield. Apparently his defensive workrate is appreciated by the fans, but in a big game, a deciding season game, better have the sharpest team possible. (Thankfully for Chelsea, its not a deciding game).
Chelsea needs a good long range shooter like Lampard was, Kroos would have been perfect for them, or Maybe switch Schurle with another midlefield German with good shooting abilities. Keep Willian as an option against Technical teams.

I knew it all along. http://footyroom.com/preview/newcastle-united-vs-chelsea-preview/

The more games you go unbeaten the higher the pressure for the whole team. Newcastle has been doing very decently at home this season. Chelsea will only grow stronger with their defeat, it's an eye opener for Mourinho and the team.

@Tiki_taka I couldn't agree more. +1 I love Willian's work rate and I like everything about him We just need another backup for Matic instead of Mikel someone who can take a long shots. I remember how in 2005-06 we used to score many goals from outside the box against teams who want to sit back and play counter attack. I think its the best solution instead of playing passes for 1 hour and win possession.

@tiki +1 . @alex +1

Willian is there to push Schurrle to perform . So far Schurrle is not doing well and that is worrying me , because I like his direct style of football and today as soon as came out he made dangerous long distance shot . I love players like him . Willian constantly drags the ball from the wings inside instead of outside to stretch defense and then he does not even take a shot when road is clear to do so .

I so hate this possession football ! Passing around the box instead of being aggressive bully and direct . If they sit so deep then lets do some outside box shooting . One of those shots will surely bounce into something dangerous if it does not go in .

Someone who can take shots is Pogba . That man is box to box creative playmaker and long distance shooter ! Love this player . Before we used to Have Essein , Ballack and Lampard in midield who were unpredictable outside of the box . You never knew whether they will pass or take a shot ! Now opposition sits back knowing that we don't have the players and the guts to shoot .

Last thing I want to comment on is Hazard's inability to be more prolific . In these games when we don't get many chances and he is one of those players who gets many balls passed to him and getting himself in scoring situations . It is just crucial for him to start converting more often and more convincing !!

Honestly can't blame manager when you have a player who makes 5 touches in goal scoring position instead of making one touch and shoot !! For god sake ! Be more adventurous .

All those victories we had I was never quiet satisfied . I don't want that pretty possession football . I want aggressive direct furious counter attacking football ! I want more from our team . I want my old ruthless Chelsea and if these players are not right for these projects then we will get the ones who are right .

P.s. Drogba came on and showed those milk boys how it is done . One chance and he took it when it matters !! That is being a world class player is about . When it matters the most , you just can't miss those chances !

And Cahil if that man makes another idiot performance like that then I have not sympathy but expect him to warm the bench !

Not a big deal, I think Chelsea knew they weren't going to pull off an invincible season. BTW all Newcastle goals were lucky. Cisse just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Like @Marcus said, Chelsea need to be more direct. A player like Ozil rather than Fabregas, Reus rather than Willian or Schurrle, and a good distance shooter like Pogba would be excellent.

I'd much rather have Fabregas than Özil in my team. In my opinion he's a perfect fit and the stats proves that further. I agree with the Reus part however.

Anyways, a lot of focus on Chelsea here. I'd say Newcastle played fairly well during the cicumstances. I wasn't comfortable at all before match start and I won't blame this on Mikel, as so many others do, but Matic was missed of course!I won't go so far to say that Newcastle deserved this win as they had a lot of luck with the assisting goal passes, but I still think they played very well.

Just to swallow this defeat and hope that Chelsea will bounce back as an even stronger team..

We played terrible, it was so frustrating. We were lively at the start but never seemed like scoring. The commentators said it would only be a matter of time before we scored but we went into the break 0-0. The thing is, if we leave it late and then concede, we don't have the time to score. We were also so slow at the end, passing it around the box slowly gave Newcastle the time to organise their defence. Costa and Hazard just didn't look like scoring and a player like Pogba would definitely make up for Matic and he brings the ability to shoot from range which we don't really have.

well... Chelsea's got a very decent squad, one of the best in the world imo. So can Chelsea just and their fans stop complaining about players and learn to be a top team with the great squad they have instead of wondering about if they could bring "reinforcements" to the club? Seriously, some people are taking this very first defeat as much more than it is. Dont turn out to be like RM fans or Barcelona fans that after every underperformance of any player they start to speculate about a new posible transfer replace...

Chelsea is a great team with a great rooster so deal with what you've got, its more than enough.

I think Willians performances suffer from Ivanovic's decision to play like Dani Alves this season. Don't get me wrong, I love Ivanovic and his defending skills are still quite good, but he is playing so offensive, it's unreal. Willian is often behind Ivanovic, you'd actually think that Ivanovic is the RM and Willian the RB if you didn't know better. Generally, our right side of the defence has been the weakness of our team recently with Ivanovic being so attacking and Cahill making inexplicable mistakes. Also, while Azpi might be the best fullback in the EPL from a defensive point of view, he's pretty meh when going forward. Filipe Luis is more balanced imo. If I was Mourinho I'd test this back four lineup for the next game:
RB: Azpi
CB: Cahill (maybe give Zouma a shout too)
CB: Terry
LB: Luis

I am not sure if this loss is more attributed to losing Matic or that Mourinho has been playing almost the same starting 11 week in week out, which is causing a burnout. Needless to say, this loss is probably for the best as people will stop talking about the second coming of the invincibles and there will be less pressure on Chelsea to win every match. Either way, title race is ON!

@dyanstian

I would say Ozil rather than Oscar .
@tuanis

Every squad can always be improved every season .

This issue of "circling box" has been around ever since Abramovich's transition of the team in 2012 after CL victory went into full gear .

One main thing I always complained about ever since this transition started is that we don't have long distance shooter and direct aggressive player who can forward like a tank and not afraid to take a shot . Mourinho came back and first think he did was to bring Matic back who has those qualities . However, Matic so often sits so deep that he sometimes simple does not get a chance to take a shot or be in position to do so .

@juanmata

Exactly . Willian gives Ivanovic that sense of confidence that he can go forward more often . Otherwise to me Ivanovic is one of the best right back in the world who is very balanced and solid in his position .

And I thought substituting Azpi to Luis was very smart by Jose but little too late . We needed to kill them on the flanks and we should have had those changes earlier .

@thegame

Team needs cope with so much playing time and be prepared that it will be worse in January . We better find out what we having problems with now than later . That is why i think Mourinho wanted these 11 men start more often together so they can really gel up in their play . We have depth in our team if one of them gets tired we can rest him , so no worries there .

And yes I am looking at positives of the loos . We will learn our lesson and work on problems . And definitely this will take the pressure off of our players .

@juanmata

I refreshened my memory and looked at the goals again and I saw that Willian did not track back on first goal . So it was not Ivanovic's fault .

And second goal it was pure Cahil's stupidity . He has had similar mistakes way too often .

Just look at midfield and attributes of those player in midfield . One deep lying DM - Makelele and two strong attacking CM who are long distance experts.

That is the line up from 2008 final vs Man U .
