THERE are smiles all round in the football world after Newcastle star Jonas Gutierrez revealed that he has won his battle against cancer!

The 31-year-old disclosed in September that he was currently undergoing chemotherapy for testicular cancer, with messages of support pouring in from all over the world.

And not only that!

Newcastle United’s Jonas Gutierrez has been named ‘Outstanding Sports Personality’ by the Buenos Aires City legislature. The Argentinian international received the award because of his ‘Successes as a player and also his human values.’ Jonas had Fabricio Coloccini by his side as he received the accolades on this special night.

After receiving his award Jonas said;
“I don’t want to be an example, I am simply trying to help those who are going through a similar situation. I do not fear cancer – it’s not a bad word, nor is death. Important thing is always to look forward; It should be positive and be dealt with using great fortitude, the important thing is always to look forward. "

“The only bad thing was that it made me lose the hair that I had.”
