Not a "Done deal" yet. But I'm 999% sure it's happening! and I can't be happier, just wished it happened in February or March so we could have finished in Top 4.... LVG ruined us and I'm glad he's leaving!

It's happening. BBC, ESPN, Sky, and Guardian have all confirmed it. Just a matter of time now. I don't feel anything at all at this point. All I can say is that LvG has taken us as far as he could and a decorated manager such as Mourinho doesn't become available much often. Naturally I prefer Giggs, but it seems that the club has made up their mind. I can't hide the fact that I DESPISE Mourinho. But with that being said, I really do hope that he succeeds and has learned from his mistakes of the past that we all know about.

The club hasn't confirmed this yet. A few years ago, Sneijder to United deal was done according to multiple sources. But Fergie said no. I won't believe it till I see on the club's page.

@theGame: I have similar feelings. I actually like Mou. He will bring the counter attacking football back to United. However, I still don't think he's the right fit because he doesn't develop youth. I will be happy if he uses the players LVG got into the first team - Rashford, Martial, Jackson, Varela, and to some extent Lingard. I hope he buys a solid CDM, and a solid defender. This could mean that either Stones or Varane will be at United along with Ibra.

So, what will come of Giggs? Will he be his assistant manager then? Because if we hire Mou, Giggs will not be managing United in the next 5-10 years...do we want to send that message now?

@TheGame, that may be true, but remember the time when they also said then Kevin Strootman was going to join?

Never again will I fully trust the papers, unless it comes from the official website itself. If this news was true, it should be on the website right now, because RIGHT NOW is the best opportunity to change managers, especially when one has to take the responsibility of knowing the club's situation, inside and out, and start working on which players to sign, etc.

I think it's kinda ungrateful to LVG.. All the rumours started exactly after the FA Cup win. Mourinho has totally overshadowed LVG's success in FA Cup...

edit: Louis van Gaal has left Manchester United's team hotel in London telling Sky Sports News HQ's reporter "it's over".

I really don't think, provided the way he managed RM during the last seasons he would be better than LVG. But if he coaches the same way as he did with Inter or Porto, for sure United will win a trophy next season.

Next year will be one hell of a season in EPL. You already have Wenger, Klopp and Pochettino. Add Conte, Pep, and Jose. 6 Teams; 4 UCL spots. And if either Leicester, Southamption, or Westham start doing well again, that would mean 7-8 teams for 4 UCL spots. Who says EPL is boring? Can't wait for next season!

Edit: Arsenal fans are looking at the realistic possibility that they may finish outside top 4 for the first time in Wenger's tenure.

We as fans should thank LvG, because even though he is an egomaniac, towards the end of his tenure I really do believe he finally understood that United was a special club. A special club that is also demanding. He saw how much the fans, the staff, and management believed in that red shirt. I cannot say the same about some of the players that came and went under him, namely Di Maria, Falcao, and currently Depay. Part of me is conflicted, but a United manager needs to be much less stubborn in his approach and more adaptable. In that regards, he is a bit like Wenger. Next year we probably would've got 3rd or 4th with minimal improvement. We should've appointed either Ancelotti or Pep, if we were never going to promote Giggs. That was a big mistake. All in all, who would've guessed 9 months ago that Mourinho of all people would be the next manager at United. I certainly didn't. Chelsea DID make a mistake in letting him leave and now he is going to a rival club. For all intents and purposes, lets hope this is Mourinho's last club before retirement and that he can finally be a permanent appointee at United for the foreseeable future.

Let's take it back to 2010. LvG vs. SAF at Old Trafford. United v. Bayern. Looking at the highlights of the game I see very little difference between that Bayern team and this current United side. And in the first half, United STEAMROLLED them. Just as teams have done to us this season (Arsenal, Spurs, Wolfsburg in the away game). If it wasn't for the Rafael red card, we would've surely progressed. LvG in a nutshell is not a United manager. We have made 312 scoring chances this season. That is the 4th worse in the division. There is just no way LvG's style can be improved in that regards given his training regimen and possession style football. We need a change.

@theGame: Yes, had Rafael stayed, we would have progressed, and probably went to the final. But you can not deny that the core of the same Bayern team- that LVG made -is the one that is so dominant in Europe these days; they won the treble a couple of years ago under Heynckes.

Overall, my biggest gripe is the pressure fans put on the club's hierarchy. People say that Moyes was given a Champion Squad, but do not understand that in 2012-2013 we were not special- like in the past years. We were Champions by default since every other team performed poorly. Our defense & midfield were utterly pedestrian (which was exposed under Moyes), but since RVP was in crazy form, it masked it. No one really understood the level of rebuilding that needed to be done. I'd say considering those factors, and all the injuries we've had this year, I'm happy with the way LVG has done. I would expect the club's hierarchy to know and understand this. Personally, I'd have let LVG finish his tenure. If they made the decision understanding this, they probably do have sound reasons that we don't know off. But, having seen Ed's transfer dealings, I highly doubt that they understand this; this concerns me as a fan. I do not want Untied to be another Liverpool/Milan clubs.

I feel for LVG. Every club he's gone to, he was not there to reap the fruits of success. At Barcelona, he gets Xavi/ Inesta into the first team. We've all seen what they did. At Bayern he gets Mueller, Robben, and Schweinsteiger and forms the squad around them. This is till today one of the dominant squads in Europe. And not to forget, his 90's Ajax team formed the core of the dutch squad and when Ajax was invaded by other teams, these players became core of those teams as well. For the purposes of the future of the club, we needed LVG to stay another year so that these youngsters could have established themselves. Oh well, it is what it is.

Completely agree with @theGame. LVG another season would be a huge mistake. I dont like Mou, but i dont believe i can stand the frustration watching us under LVG for another year

Although I don't personally like Mourinho, what he does guarantee is short term success. But United is more than that. It's about playing the United way, building up young players to become superstars, etc. I don't think Mourinho will do that.

@ashwin, why is it that for those players to become the greats they currently are, LvG has to leave? I believe it is because he has a knack for identifying talent and perhaps nurturing those talents, but his system is too restricted for those players to thrive.

Lack of class from Uniteds towards Van Gaal has been astonishing. Even Moyes did not get such treatment !

@theGame: True, but it could also have been that he may have just needed time for these players to perform/gel. Anycase, it is now official that LVG has left the club. I would expect Jose to take over today/tomorrow.

@Marcus: Yes and no. Yes as in the rumors started before the FA Cup, and he was not told till today. No because United gave him a chance to win the trophy instead of firing him midseason. Moyes was treated much worse.

If Sir Alex Ferguson would have received same treatment by the fans and board , he would not have lasted back in early United days and would have never built a dynasty .

My point is Van Gaal did his best to fix problems at United and he laid a foundation that Jose will find easier to start his philosophy .

@Marcus, yes I agree. van Gaal should have left with more dignity. It is a shame as we're a club that prides itself in holding managers to a high esteem and we failed to do so in this situation.
