I thought it was pretty cool. Haven't yet heard of a galaxy being named after a human being, much less an athlete. I think it's something very unique and Ronaldo should be proud of having a galaxy named after him.

Haha that is awesome. Btw, this begs a question: Does anyone know what single living person is the most famous on earth? I feel it's Cristiano Ronaldo? Or is it someone like Obama/Tiger Woods/Bill Gates/Ali/Oprah?

@VAMOSBenfica
According to Facebook and Twitter, Cristiano Ronaldo is the most popular. But realistically speaking, it's probably Obama. The President of the United States is almost always the most famous person in the world.
Yeah Obama is really big in America and most parts of Europe, but sport is big everywhere in the world and football is the biggest sport with Ronaldo/Messi the biggest in football, so it really is hard to say.
Very cool idea!
@VAMOSBenfica,
I think Obama is most popular person today, along with singers like Beyonce, Eminem or Rihanna. In history I would say Jesus, and if we exclude religious persons Napoleon or Adolph.
EDIT: I wrote Adolph because you know his surname is blacklisted.

CR7 is out of this world—literally.
Yes, believe it or not, but a whole galaxy has been named after Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. The New York Times revealed details of the new galaxy in an article where most of the content is far too complex for our tiny brains, but they say that CR7 is "a recently discovered galaxy that existed when the universe was only about 800 million years old" and "is three times as luminous as any previously found from that time."
It has been named Galaxy CR7 for two reasons.
and...
So there you go. No surprise that the University of Lisbon has been heavily involved in its discovery. ![]()
