Manchester United have released research which claims that nearly one person in 10 across the globe supports the Red Devils.

Their nearest rivals are Barcelona but United enjoy twice the support in Asia, seen as the key market for the future, as the Catalan giants according to the survey.

Market research firm Kantar gathered responses from 54,000 people across 39 countries online and face to face, and asked interviewees which "team or teams they followed" - more than one club could be named.

Richard Arnold, the club's commercial director, said the depth of support had helped United's commercial income soar - it has risen by at least 10 per cent every year since 2007.

A market research survey yesterday claimed the Old Trafford club has a staggering 659 million fans globally - doubling their numbers from a similar study conducted in 2007.

It is a lofty claim, but if it is to be believed, Sir Alex Ferguson's side will surely be back among the silverware soon enough.

That's normal. Admit it, MU is the most famous and beloved club in the world. Although, I agree, the research didnt show any information where are those fan come from, a lot of them are from Asia (China, Korea, Vietnam... have shit LOADS  of people), and they normally only watch EPL or Series A due to time different (La Liga games play around... 3:00 AM in the morning for some). Thus, Barca or Real has less fan in Asia than EPL club (same goes to Chelsea or Arsenal). Having said that, MU won their heart more than the other. Fair enough?

I can't find the post now, but it was on the BBC website, stated that of the 659m followers, 350m were from ASIA.
