Leo Messi was asked a similar question, and responded with "I don't know what will happen or where I will be next year. Like Cristiano says, you never know".

When asked about Ronaldo's year, he said "What Cristiano did this season was really impressive. He had an extraordinary year."

When asked if he would ever like to play alongside Ronaldo, he said "You're asking about best players of all time and I think [Ronaldo] will be one of them. Would love to have played with him."

I think his general message was the same as Ronaldo's: you never know the future. But the manner in which he said it made it seem like he was more skeptical of his future than Ronaldo. A few words here and there can change the meaning of your entire sentence, and Messi did that cleverly.
